Are these loader buckets supposed to come with a cutting edge?

I mean the stock bucket will not cut level it just rides on the buckets skid plates on the bottom. No cutting edge on the bucket. Just leaves two skid plate line when trying to cut snow and ice level.

Thoughts? Was I supposed to buy and bolt on a cutting edge?

Cheers Don.

Maybe include a photo of your bucket.
there should be a factory edge.
sounds like you have the bucket rolled back too far.
If you have a bunch of open holes in your bucket the holes are for a bolt on edge.
there should still be a heavy edge for bolting cutting edge to the bucket.

The edge is extra.

Are we sure there isn't some confusion here? Maybe I'm missing something. Yes, you can get add-on edges and tooth-bars for buckets, to increase their digging and cutting ability, but the factory edge should still scrape snow and ice just fine, no? If you told me you were leaving skid-plate lines, I would tell you to dump your bucket a few more degrees.

Maybe a photo of the OP's bucket would help clear some of this up.

Ya this is the situation but you can not scrape clean using the skid plates. Once you tip the bucket ahead like your telling me to do with out any frost in the roadway your digging into the roadway.

Most all other loaders I have used when perfectly level with the road surface your loader cutting edge is flush with the skid plates. When the loader gauge is perfect with the tube you can not scrape level with out an edge your riding on the skid plates and much material is going under your bucket.

I guess I will be heading up for a cutting edge today and bolting one on. Heck my snow blower comes with a cutting edge but not these loaders?

Rather than buying the standard bolt on edge for your bucket go to an Iplement Dealer and get a piece of 1/2 x 4 in. Edge and weld it on.

It will really help stiffen up th bucket.:D

Use your loader control to get the proper "cutting edge " you need to drop the front edge of the bucket to match the surface your clearing , Watch a few you tube videos to learn how to plow snow ! you can add a hard rubber bolt on edge to help sweep it squeaky clean :duh:

Well Grumpy old man I have been moving snow for a few years in my 40 years. Some things make life allot easier hence the new DK45SE cab with loader. You have to rely on the skid plates until there is frost in the ground and even then it still helps with keeping the lawn repairs to a minimum.

Not sure where your from but around here we can get 2 feet of snow and no ground frost. Then the snow acts like insulation and the frost will not go into the ground. If you keep it clear in time frost will go down into the roadway.

Picture of two years ago with the old kabota its cutting edge was stock and the new iron.

Cheers Don.

Please don't take it the wrong way but if you have been plowing snow for any amount of time you would know these things ,your post read like a new tractor owner and that machine should do anything you want it too , from the picture it looks like bone flat land and a gravel drive !is there no float position ?

I would get an edge anyway. The stock bucket edge doesn't last very long. I wish I had put an edge on at the time of purchase.
I bought a 6"x1/2"x60" piece of metal and welded an addition 1/4"x1.4"x60" to it to give me a new edge. I used the existing bolt holes on the bucket and mounted and bolted it in place. I haven't used the float position much... my lane is gravel Class A and rolled down.

I am kinda jealous that you have snow!
