It was a process initiated by the government to get rid of all tiny pieces of land that made up most of the farms in Norway, so land was redistributed so all those small bits of land was turn in to bigger fields that was much more efficient to farm. And in this process farms was moved, this system of special land courts still exists, this farm had its last round of this in 2001.

Beautiful pictures! We had the awesome experience of hosting through Rotary a 17 year old Norwegian for our school year 2016-17. She is beautiful inside and out. Not sure where you are located but her home is in Volda. She is currently going to college further south at Kristiansand. We hope one day to be able to go over and visit with her and her family and see in person this beautiful country.

Was some of the land confiscated or were you compensated?

It's a trade, you should end up in zero, but of course that's not always 100% the case but that's the goal of this system.

Here I Norway owning farms has been very regulated, until a few years ago I could not sell the farm to anyone I wanted, family had the right to buy it, and if I did sell it to people outside they could by law force the new owner to sell the farm back at a low price. And before someone shouts sosialism, the law goes back to year 1274 and are probably older than that. I must use the farm, if not I'm breaking the law, but to "use" is a very loose definition.

No, doesn't sound like socialism, sounds like a feudal system from the middle ages.
