Actually, the pto needs to be trimmed for when they are 'exacty' parallel from each other. That will be the shortest distance.

On this one you could hook or unhook the pto shaft at any level, I would assume that's more than enough clearance. He used it for about half an hour yesterday and no trouble. Only complaint was it doesn't till deep enough. Settings are for as deep as it goes and it's only tilling about 8 inches deep. I believe I like the old plow/disc method better.

A lot of tillers I've looked at only cut to 6" deep. Is there a real need to go more than 8"? I don't have much experience with gardening, but want to start doing veggies. Thanks, John
