The problem was a bad potential (start) relay. Local well guy would not sell me a relay, said the relay was the weak point of the controller, and the new one that replaced it was solid state, and every time there was a lightning strike anywhere close, it burn up the ckt board, and they would not use them. Said to change the entire controller. I questioned buying a new controller when I didn't know if the pump had a locked rotor or not. He said if they had to install a new pump, they would install a new controller, or they couldn't warranty the pump. I could have bought the controller cheaper at Lowes or over the internet, but we had been without water for a couple of days, and mama was upset. Bought the box and installed it, everything OK. Next trip to the big city, I'll buy a relay at the AC supply house and have a spare controller.
