Hi all

I am new to John Deere mowers, having come from Kubota BXseries. I have a question re the drive belt or whatever it may be called. I just bought this tractor, it only has 10 hours on it. Apart from the little lever at the back of the tractor doing nothing at all, the machine seems to make way more noise than I think it should. If I push the brake lever slightly the noise stops. Investigating showed me that there is 2 small pullies mid mower on the right side that are rattling back and forth making quite a racket. I see no brake adjustment, nor do I see a missing spring or tensioner.

Nothing in the owners manual showing the belts but in trouble shooting under tractor vibrates oo much or rattles excessivelt it states: " Attachement drive belts worn or damaged, traction drive belts worn or damaged, dirt on drive sheaves.

Problem is everything is new and looks clean slight application of brake makes the rattle stop.

Also, anyone know a reputable site for getting the service manual ? Paid sites.

Thanks

Well I did find a site that has manuals, go here:
D.I.Y. Lawn Mower Repair: John Deere mower / tractor manuals

Scroll down to Technical manuals: then pick the JD 130 link.

Don't know if it is the correct manual for your tractor as it doesn't say D130.

Good luck,

Richard

After another look at the above noted PDF, this is not for your machine as it only talks about Kawasaki engines.

With only 10 hours I can't see a flat spot but I will have a look. The price was right and it fits my current need but I sure don't like the design. Never had a tractor like this so it will take some getting use to I suppose.

Thanks for the input.

As for the manual download I found loads of places to get it but they all feel sketchy. Think I will just go to John Deere

So is there no tension adjustment or spring for that drive setup ?

And thanks for the link to the old manual. It will help for sure. Still going to buy the factory manual but this is a big help.

On the D130 deck there is a spring tensioner. That may be the cause or loose bolts on the sheaves. As tomplum stated you need to pull the deck.
If only 10hrs on it the dealer should be notified before you do any repairs or modifications to protect your warranty.

I owned a D130 for a while. The idler sheave on the deck went out at 80hrs. Deck did seem to make more noise than it should. My neighbors D130 is much quieter than mine was.

Hopefully you have this repaired by now but:
"If I push the brake lever slightly the noise stops. "
Tells you that your noise is associated with those two pulleys. They are the clutch idler pulleys.
Without needing to remove the deck yet... engage the Park Brake. That removes the tension from the belt. You can reach under and spin each pulley individually by hand and you will know straight away which is making the noise.
Replacement is easiest done with the deck off. Just lie on your back and work on the pulleys with a 15mm socket with the Park Brake still engaged. Easy.
(Best to replace both at the same time.)
Buy your Service Manual from your JD Dealer (CD version is half the price of the Paper copy).
