My dogs have peed two shrubs to death. Before I replace the shrubs I want to discourage their habit. I was thinking some wire and a battery. Anybody got any less painful ideas?
You might try setting some sacrificial shrubs and gather some dirt where a strange dog has peed and place it around the sacrificial shrubs...just an off the wall suggestion...
Use to get a pepper powder that was real strong and you mixed it up and sprayed the plants. When to animal got close it burned their nose. Stopped dogs from bedding in flower beds and all. Had to re-apply weekly or after rains though. Haven't seen any in several years though.
Other options would be a shock collar. But then you have to see them in the "act".
There used to be aerosol sprays you could buy for that, but it's been nearly 40 years since I needed and used it, so I don't even know whether it's still made.
Used the electric fence approach the first dog got zapped and took off as fast as he could. Found him an hour later a half a mile from the house acting as if he had been beat. I don't want to hurt the dogs just discourage them. So back to the drawing board.
