Dang belly mower won\'t hang right!

The first dang time I took the belly mower off my BX2200 to do some digging with the FEL when I put it back on it no longer hangs level! So pi%$ed! What a bear to put back on! It's a 60" deck with the free float and is installed with all the quick links back where they belong. Just can't understand why it hangs higher on one side. Any ideas out there???

Thanks

Re: Dang belly mower won\'t hang right!

DrDan, I remember your special circumstances but I have to say the removal installation of the BX is simply very simple. You must not have got it back in the rear pins or the front is not hooked at the forward pin or it never hung level to start with or the torsion bar may need adjusting or it may be normal if by unlevel you mean when in the stowed or lifted position and not the mowing "lowered' position. More info please. J

Doc,The MMM on our BX when in the raised position, will be slightly higher on the right side, the discharge side. The same goes for the deck on our G1900.When the decks are lowered they both become perfectly level. The MMM on our B2710 when raised is level, and when lowered....Go figure.

Re: Dang belly mower won\'t hang right!

Only issue I had is that had to take one gauge wheel off to get it on and off. No problems otherwise if you follow the sequence.

I have noticed that the mid-mount doesn't hold position on my BX. I can set it so that the gauge wheels are just above a flat surface when I start mowing - but by the time I'm done clanking around my yard it's settled all the way down. I'm just assuming this is the way it's meant to be.

Re: Dang belly mower won\'t hang right!

Dan,

It's important to remember to put both rear pins in first, and it should be an easy task..if the pins don't go in easy, check to make sure that the holes are aligned and move the deck appropriately. After these are in, it should be a simple task to pivot the front retainer into place. Takes me maybe 3 minutes for the whole shabang.

RPM,

You should be using the height adjustment down by your left foot to set the lower limit of travel for the mower, not just the 3pt hydraulics, which do drift over time, at least on mine. That lower limit knob turns a stepped cam that physically stops the mechanism of the deck from lowering.

mine hangs higher on one side too but the blades are level, you can adjust it some.

Re: Dang belly mower won\'t hang right!

Charliebrn,

Sorry - I wasn't clear - by settled all the way down I mean that the deck is running on the gauge wheels. I had previously set the knob underneath the seat and also put the gauge wheels at the right pin setting (I've been following the knob setting - and corresponding pin setting instructions in the manual). The manual still says to lift the gauge wheels a little off the ground before mowing - and my problem is that they are always back down on the ground fairly quickly.

It's a minor issue - but makes the deck clank around as it runs on the gauge wheels. I don't bother to adjust when mowing because when at high rpm the deck moves up quite a bit with even just a touch to the control lever - enough for it to leave a visible difference in cut height.

Re: Dang belly mower won\'t hang right!

This is a little different issue. I have only one problem when attaching & removing the belly mower and that is getting to slide in between the front & back tires.

I have bar type tires and on a level surface I always have to turn the steering back & forth & skootch the mower into place bit by bit. Next time I'll either lift the front end with the FEL or drive the front wheels up onto a board or something.

Am I missing something or is this just a really tight fit ?

Re: Dang belly mower won\'t hang right!

It's tight - I find that I have to take one of the gauge wheels off when I take the deck off - and I have turfs. Course, having said that, I still consider it a quick job. It takes less than a minute to pop the gauge wheel pin, pick up the edge of the deck, drop the wheel out and set the deck down.
