I have a 40 acre farm with about 15 acres fenced into a total of nine smaller pastures. I run sheep and cut hay and this set up actually works very well. It was fenced when I bought the property, but unfortunately it was fenced very poorly. Low quality fencing With t posts spaced way too far apart. Much of the fencing was essentially non-functional and I have been using electronet to secure the pastures. I’ve been on a three-year journey to refence the property and do it right. All tolled there is between six and 7000 feet of fence. We are about halfway there and up until now. We have been drilling each hole and setting each coast by hand. Very labor-intensive and I am hiring much of it out since I have a day job. After last year, I figured there must be a better way, so I bit the bullet and bought a Danuser lm 40 loader mount post driver. I have an LSMT7101 and the tractor is quite well sized to handle it. We put it to work tonight and I am nothing short of amazed. The drill and set method was taking about 90 minutes per post in my, rocky glacial soil, and tonight we were able to drive 16 5 inch posts 3 feet deep in 90 minutes. Straight as an arrow. I am absolutely amazed at how well this works. My calculations in buying it was that the cost and labor would pay for the machine this year and I think that is going to be true. I spent a lot of time researching various post drivers, with shaver being the most common brand out there. I was turned off by the fact that it required some plumbing into the tractor to accommodate the hydraulic return line. The Danuser uses a much more sensible configuration: it has a small hydraulic motor that runs a continuous chain that lifts the 500 pound weight up and then drops it. It really doesn’t matter how much hydraulic flow you have. Higher flow is faster pounding. I think I have 17 gallons per minute out the front and that went as fast as I need. Literally, from the time we got the post squared up and started driving, it took a minute to drive it into the soil anyone that has a bunch of fencing to do should really give consideration to a set up like this. I couldn’t be happier .
