Tiller "DARK HORSE" Tillers

   / "DARK HORSE" Tillers #101
TSC is not interested in taking the unit back. I am told that the tines are a "wear item" that carry no warranty. I ordered replacement KK tines. The other problems are described as "normal maintenance" that can be easily repaired. I doubt if the Dark Horse line will remain with TSC for very long; and they clearly will not be offering much support for the DH.

I am not complaining, by the way. I knew going in that this was not likely going to be a well built implement. I only risked $900, and I can still chew up a 1 acre garden lot twice a year. However, when this tiller fails for good, I will be replacing it with a known and proven brand like Woods, Landpride, etc.

George

Not woods. I have one. Its better than DH from the sounds, but its a rebadged italian piece of junk with woods paint on it (woods color paint, not woods quality). Not worth the money.

In general I like woods stuff, but not this tiller.

From what I've seen here, I'd buy CCM or king kutter doing it over.

After reading many of the post on this subject it just blows my mind how many folks would be willing to take a $900.00 gamble on a Dark Horse. Even the name gives me the chills.

America has lost so many jobs because of the outsourcing to china for nearly everything we use and we americans still fall into the "it's the lowest price" trap. I wish we had a "MADE IN THE USA" campaign in our local stores. So some of us Americans could choose what country we get are products from. I would pay more money for the same products if I new it would be helping provide more good jobs here in the USA. My Dad always told me "you get what you pay for" and that is true most of the time. I have had many bad quality issues with china made stuff mostly electronics (been through at least 20 vcr/dvd units in the past 10 years. Prior to that I had a JVC vcr that I bought in 1991 and it still works today. I know that there are some good quality china stuff but as a rule that china made items I bought over the years have all be pure junk.

One more example.
I bought a crowkay set to play during the 4th of July holiday for $20.00 and it lasted less than 3 minutes and 2 of the mallets broke and the wickets just folded up when you tried to stick them in the ground. My 6 year old daughter just barely tapped the ball and the handle broke into. My dad has a crowkay set he got back in the 1960s (made in the usa) and that set is still going strong with years of abuse.

Nothing would be better than to see the good ole american flag on the items we buy.

Us Canadians will take note of your protectionist actions and adjust our purchasing accordingly .

Perhaps a buy "North American" mindset would be more appropriate considering both our countries are both each other's best customer.

Your right in your thinking. "North American" would be better.

That is exactly what I think happened. It seems to be a good design with a slip clutch on the end of the drive shaft. It would probably be a good idea to just replace all the bolts with grade 8 hardware. I was going to just remove a couple sets of tines to reduce the tilling width for my little 24hp tractor, but after using it I think I will be o.k. if I just keep my speed down low, what is your opinion? I am new to this type of equipment. I have read so much bad press about Farm Pro tractors that I was amazed that my little tractor would even pick this thing up. It is big and heavy. At the ground speed I was running it my tractor never even grunted even when the patato sized rocks were ejected.

If you've already tried the tiller and your tractor handled it fine then I would leave the tines on. The first time tilling an area is the most difficult, so if you are doing garden plots then it will be easier from now on.

Amen!!! Buy once...cry once. Most stuff from China is garbage...you only get what you pay for.

Wawajake,

While I agree with your sentiments, I have been chastised more than once for over generalizing the grouping of Canada and the USA, many times in exactly this sort of context. Sometime harshely.

This is the first time I have seen a Canadian ask for the association!

Again, I am not complaining, just noting.

Best Regards
Chris

Sorry Chris
I don't understand your point where you stated:

"This is the first time I have seen a Canadian ask for the association!'
