"Junkman" thanks for taking the time and sharing the photos of the daylilies. They are beautiful!
My wife is talking about making a garden of just dayliles.
Our daylilies here are doing exceptionally well this year.

If you fertilize them with 10/10/10 in the spring and the fall they will thrive. I forgot to do it last fall and this past spring and I can tell the differance in the lack of abundance of blooms. Only problem with fertilizer is that it also feeds the weeds...

very very nice photos, just new to gardening(now that i am retiered i have the time) do they require sun or will they do well in shade.

These are in shade for most of the day, but the best is about 50/50 of sun and shade. Mine get only the very early morning sun and as a result, they grow toward that sun, which is OK in this instance. The don't require much effort to grow, just good topsoil that is well drained. I like a mix of 1/3 top soil, 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 play sand and they thrive. That mix also makes it easy to pull the weeds out. The more sun, the better they will thrive, and the same with watering. If you fertilize in the spring and fall and water them in the early morning, they will grow quickly into larger plants. Ideally plant about 18" apart in all directions. Split them when they start to crowd each other. If you start looking now, you can still find some nice plants at good prices. Once the flowers go by, they usually stop selling them unless you find them at a Mass Merchandiser like HD. Then, you can usually pick them up extremely inexpensively. The only thing easier to grow than Day Lillie's are Iris, which I also am working on. I like low maintenance plants.

This year I planted a lot of stargazer lillies on the east side of my house, and they have just finished blooming. For some reason, I didn't think to get a picture.

A few weeks ago when Kathy and I were in Colonial Williamsburg, VA, we took pictures of this little garden of daylillies. It's right across the street from the jail. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Jim, we visited Williamsburg a couple of times. My wife had a brother living there and working for William & Mary College for a few years. It's a very interesting place; however, the one thing I remember best is that I got what I'd consider the world's worst barbecued ribs there in what is supposedly one of the town's most popular restaurants. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks for the link. Wife has Day Lilly's around the house. Whenever I start going around with grass and weed killer she is right behind me making sure I don't get near the ones by our drive entrance flower garden. When I found the ones on the site she has planted out there. Well, east coast barbecue is very different from what we are used to. I think the owner of Main Street Barbecue in Euless came from the east coast. After being out here a long time, his barbecue is something between the two and pretty darn good.

What I liked very much about Colonial Williamsburg was the visitor's center and the ability to select what level of detail you wanted in your tour by buying different ticket levels. I think it's a first-class self-directed tour and the transportation in and around the park is very good. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

We saw daylilies all over Williamsburg and deep-deep blue hydrangeas.

Yep, Frank, I don't think there's anywhere in Texas that you could find the kind of "barbecue" I got in Williamsburg. It was beef ribs and what made them so bad was simply the fact that they were liberally covered in a sauce that was so sweet it was terrible. I think the primary ingredient had to be some kind of syrup with a dash of ketchup.

Nice pictures! My wife grows a number of them too. We have a wonderful nursery/farm nearby that has oodles and oodles of them in an amazing variety Amador Flower Farm In fact, there is so much variety, it makes choosing a tough situation /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
