DC to AC Inverter Features:
Ability to quickly convert tractor 12 volt DC power into household 115 volt AC power. Has anyone done something like this before on a tractor? I am wanting to be able to carry something like an electric pole tree trimmer around and power the trimmer from power on the tractor.

John Deere made a riding lawn mower several years ago that had an optional generator - or maybe it was an inverter - bolted to the side of the engine. It seems to me that it was about 5000 KW but it may have been less.

The problem with an inverter is the lack of amps. It gets complicated (ohms law) but the cost of the inverter that can handle the amperage of your pole saw will probably outweigh the cost of just getting a gas powered one.

Little 100 watt inverters, that basically are good for recharging laptops, can kill a battery in under a couple of hours. Large inverters, like you want, will need you to run the tractor while trimming (no big deal) but may draw more than your alternator can supply. I don't know your machine but....

Can you see how many watts / amps your saw pulls?

I got one of those Black and Decker 750/1500 watt inverters from Walmart to use like this. It will only put out about 6 amps. So any tool I use has to be under 6 amps. And even then I can only use it for short periods of time. The alternator just can't keep up. I use it mostly to run an electric hedge trimmer. I drive around by the hedges and trim any that are hanging too low for me to mow under. I have also used it to run an electric weed eater where I'm too far from the house to use an extension cord. I would like a slightly bigger inverter and also upgrade the tractor alternator. Maybe then I could run the electric chainsaw. Naw, I just need a generator.

I have run a 1000 Watt inverter on each of my Kubotas. ... They cost about $70 apiece. Never had any problem running a battery down doing limbing and occasional deeper cuts with a chainsaw. The BX no longer has one on it because a guy I had do some work for me cut the cord and destroyed the inverter. Hard to find good help.

Get a good generator and use it for a variety of things.

I have generators, and, I have an inverter that I carry with me all the time mounted in my RTV that I run around on the ranch. It's a 2500 Watt inverter....sure, more than the battery and alternator can support over a long period...but, works dandy for exactly what you are wanting...chain saw, intermittent use. I've found the inverter to be extremely handy.
I watched Craig's List....bought it new for $75...so, a hefty inverter is not ALWAYS an arm and leg...shop around. Your challenge will be to find a place to mount, out of the weather,
the inverter, to fuse it properly, and to get one large enough for your needs...I recommend having one....such joy when you use it.
