Tractor
BX24
I posted here once, but it didn't help. I was tilling with my b2650 when it died abruptly. I found a blown fuse. Replaced it (4x). The tractor starts, runs at high idle 2500rpm, and the hydraulics work. Loader lifts, tiller lifts and lowers, and turns. But the moment I hit the accelerator (either forward or reversed) the engine dies, and the fuse blows. Any ideas?

I would have thought a seat (or pto?) safety switch, but blowing the fuse is an odd quirk for sure.

Just a guess, but does that tractor have a pedal neutral switch that has to be satisfied before it can start?

Not that it has anything to do with it but how many hours do you have on it? Any wires that run along the linkage, maybe causing a short when the pedal is pushed? Any idea what the fuse that keeps blowing is for? Cab or rops?

What you are really moving when this happens is the forward or reverse pedal and not the foot throttle right? Foot throttle has nothing to do with forward or reverse.

Have you tried shifting out of four wheel drive and see if still happens. No idea what is blowing the fuse but think why it dies is the four wheel is some how jammed is why the tractor died with you to begin with and when you are pressing the pedal to travel the load on the engine is still killing it. So try it without it being in a range (in neutral) and then press the travel pedal and see if it dies. If it does not die then in 2 wheel drive sees what happens.

One other thought, it is not dying when you engage the pto for the tiller is it and not the travel? If so it is possible the tiller has some kind of jam in it or the gear box or such of the tiller. Still have no idea why a fuse would blow. Then they may not be the same issue, dying and blown fuse.

Not aware of any safety switch with the four wheel drive but there is of course on cranking in gear but can think of no reason this would cause a fuse to blow. Not aware of any switch that would blow if transmission is jammed.

That really sounds like some problem with a safety interlock feature, but it would be pure guesswork being more specific, and blowing fuses isn't right at all.

Since that's a pretty new model, here's a suggestion: If you are still on speaking terms with the dealer that sold it to you, find out which fuse it is that's popping and give them a call. Unless they are just naturally disagreeable people, they should about fall over backwards trying to help you.

First... thanks to everyone for responding... really appreciate it. I'm scheduled for a "maybe" Thursday pick up by the dealer, which I'm NOT looking forward to. $$$$! Would love to call and tell them to cancel. Some more info. The forward/neutral/reverse pedal is all one. I love it because I have a fused ankle bone and can go into reverse by simply lifting the pedal with my toe (foot doesn't work the other way. I started the engine yesterday (turns out it's a 5a fuse that blows) and I engaged the pto. The tiller lifts and so does the mower. Actually the mower drops first, so you can leave it on and mow with the tiller still far enough off the ground to not scarf the turf. The loader lifts fine. All the hydraulics seem perfect, and the pto seems fine... the tiller rotates and nothing is stuck in the tines. But still, within 10-15 seconds of accelerating either forward or back, the fuse blows. I called the dealer yesterday and told him this and he said it HAD to be a safety switch problem. Kubota redesigned this switch... way better than my BX model.. and I took it off, held it in my hand fully depressed, started the engine... same result. The dealer said there has to be a bare wire somewhere that's shorting. Unfortunately, while I used to do all the crawling around on the barn floor, I'm 74 now and not so inclined any more. This looks like a hard task for a younger man. The one thing I suspect is that since the mower won't lift when the hoe is on (have to shift the hydraulic line to it), and it does lift when I pull the hoe and replace it with the tiller, I may have pinched something when I started using the hydraulics to lift the mower. Normally I leave the mower on year round. I've looked for any sign of a bad wire, but once the wiring disappears into the center cowling, I'm lost. I'm suspicious this is an easy fix, but not for someone set up like me.

Also, the B2650 only has about a hundred hours on it. Looks like new (because it pretty much is).

Well if you are like me, you can get down ok but have a bit of trouble getting up. Just make sure you have someone to help you up. I would sure tackle it at least once before paying for pickup and delivery for something that might be a simple bare wire on the linkage. If it is a bare wire, it should be easy to find. Don't forget to take a flash light with you when you lay down to look under it. You might could find it with a mirror without laying down if your wife will let you borrow her makeup mirror.

Wow... thanks for the advice... I can get down pretty easily, too! My wife doesn't use makeup, and I refuse to.... but I have a makeup mirror in my toolbox. Big problem I have with tracking the problem is the mower deck is in the way. It's a bear to get on and off. Wish I'd bought the drive-over version.
