This posting is for all the people I've seen make the comment on this forum that one should just get the best price when shopping for a tractor, the dealer isn't important. I've never subscribed to that theory and my experience this week rings true.

At the end of last week we'd received just under two feet of snow in my area. I had just completed cleaning up the deep stuff and was "playing" around just sort of cleaning up when the impeller for the second stage broke on my front mounted snowblower. It appeared that the weld was poor and just decided to break, I hadn't hit anything. I called the dealer on Monday and informed them of what had happened. When I asked what the damages would be for transporting the tractor I was told, "we take care of our customers." They came and picked up the tractor on Monday. By 2 P.M. on Tuesday the tractor was back in my garage. Not only had they replaced the impeller (under warranty) but had smoothed up the damage to the chute area caused by the impeller bouncing around when it broke and also painted the damaged area. The whole thing didn't cost me a nickel which was amazing because transportation was not part of the deal when I bought the tractor.

Sooooo, perhaps you can understand why I don't agree with the folks who say just go for the best price, the dealer doesn't matter.

I think the folks who don't believe the dealer is one of the most important components are significantly outnumbered @ TBN...

Yours is obviously an outstanding dealer...congrats on your choice.

A good dealer is a good dealer. What does that have to do with price?

If you paid alot more than you could have at another dealer then all you did was pre-pay for that seemingly "free" transportation. The part of the job covered under warranty has nothing to do with the price you paid or the free transport.

A good dealer is great. An immediate savings in lieu of "soft" features down the road is very good too.

The dealer can make or break a brand, IMO. I looked at NH, FarmAll, Deere, and Kubota. All had nice machines, but I was most impressed with the Kubota dealer. He's close, the deal was good, the service is great. I'll be baaack!

Agree 100%! My local Kubota dealers are very good... my local JD dealer is outstanding. Had the JD dealer been bad as they apparently are in some areas, I'd have an orange tractor instead of a green one. I think the quality and feature differences among the major brands are smaller than the quality differences among dealers.

The question would you pay almost 3k extra for a cut and fel locally or drive 3 hours and save that money. I would love to buy locally but my dealers won't come close to an out of town deal.

I agree! $1,810 difference for the same tractor just isn't right. I would have like to have done business with my local dealer, however I'm not going to pay that kind of extra money just to please him. Not everybody has an honest salesperson to deal with or one willing to come down alittle. I understand that they need to make money, but not that much on one deal. Please.

SCDolphin:

Brian (n8wrl) and I bought from the same dealer (I think) so you might want to head north about 1.5 hours and check them out. Maybe you already have, but its worth a try if you haven't.
