1st time poster, so a 2 part question to start off with:

1. I am in the market to buy something in the CUT range and being new to the NH area I am unfamiliar with the local dealers. Can anyone recommend to me who has a better sales/service department? Preferably a dealer that you wouldn't mind sending your best friend to un-accompanied.

2. Having moved from a townhouse in CA to a house in NH that is on 2.5 acres, I am unsure of what size tractor to purchase. The house is new construction, so anywhere where the soil was disturbed the contractor hydro-seeded and I will have a fair amount of grass after the spring thaw. Of the 2.5 acres, there is about 1 to 1.5 of grass the rest being trees. I do have a few project that I want to do around the yard so I want a FEL and a MMM. My main concern is buying something undersized and having to re-buy. I don’t mind going a little large, as long as it’s not to heavy to drive over the septic tank and it won’t tear up/leave ruts, in the lawn.

Any input that you have is greatly appreciated.

Here are a few. The one in Amherst is new but the company has been selling lawn and garden stuff for quite a few years in Nashua.

Oh, if you are not color blind, there are other colors (NH, Kubota, Massey) available close by in southern NH. Prices are higher here, with green the highest, than elsewhere but that's life in New England. But at least you don't have to pay any sales tax. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hi,

I bought from Rosencrantz, but their main shop is in Kensington (East Kingston). They are great to deal with. Mark Nickerson is a good salesman to deal with.

If you are interested in buying used, I might have everything you want. I am selling my Deere because it has done everything I need it to do and I will only be mowing with it going forward. It is now more machine than I need.

I have:
4100 Hydro tractor (20 Hp Diesel)
Only 180 hours on the tractor
410 Loader with 60" bucket
54" MMM
3 Bag grass catcher with 5hp blower to suck clippings into the bags
Turf tires
Set of R4 (industrial, like a bobcat) tires, with the rears ballasted
Ballast box (for using the FEL with the unloaded turf tires)
5 ft landscape rake with gage wheels
4 ft grading blade
3 pt quick hitch for swapping out implements without smashed knuckles

I live in Salem NH. You can email me at mrberube@comcast.net if you are interested.

FWIW, I will be putting the package up on consignment at Rosencrantz come early April. So, if you prefer to buy from a dealer they will have it around then.

Chappell Tractor in Milford and Brentwoodsell NH and Kubota
This is who I bought my TC24 from. Theyre pretty good to deal w/.

Knoxland in Weare sells Massey
I really liked Knoxland and almost bought from them. In my view, of all the dealers I visited when shopping, theyre the best sales/service-wise.

Northwood Power in Northwood sells Agco and Massey

I have about the same acreage you do and own a TC24. Ive found it just right for that size yard w/ plenty of power.

I bought my Kubota BX23 from Chappell's in Milford after looking around quite a bit at different manufacturers and dealers. I paid a little bit more than I would have if I bought from Emerich's or one of the other out of state dealers but it was only a few hundred dollars and I thought that was worth it to have a relationship with the dealer. So far they have been really good.
When I was looking at Kubota's I also went to MB Tractor in Pelham - their prices were higher than Chappell's when I asked for a quote but they are worth a trip if you are looking because they have a huge amount of tractors on the lot so you can look around and do side by side comparisons.

I also looked Nashua Power (at both of their locations) when I was looking at John Deere - I thought they were much more car salesman-like than the other dealers I visited. Like putting the name "airplane" or "race-car" before a part, putting the name "John Deere" before a tractor jacks up the price.

When I looked at Massey Ferguson I went up to Knoxland in Weare and was impressed with their selection but I never talked with the actual dealer - I had pretty much decided on Kubota at that point.

I also looked at Kioti's and would recommend Ken's Tractor and Truck Ken's Tractor and truck - small family business and easy to deal with - plus he had the biggest selection of Kioti in the area. He carries Branson now too according to his website.

I would agree w/ your expreiences. Just to add some...

I thought Northwood Power was VERY used car dealer like. I never was at ease w/ the thought of having them as a support. OTOH Knoxland was great. I talked w/ a salesman there a couple times. Their prices arent the best but the dealership as far as service/support is supper, probably the best in the area. I almost bought a Massey but the lack of folding ROPS killed the deal.

When I started tractor shopping I went right to Rosencrantz b/c of the great job they did w/ some unrelated warranty work. If they hadnt been so hard to do business w/ Id be a JD owner right now. Oh well... Here in WA the Deere dealer is great and is priced right there w/ the NHs. I rather like the 20 series tractors. I might wind up w/ a JD yet. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I bought my JD 4100 rig from Rosencranz.....Mark in Sales is great and their service has been nothing but fantastic ! However, their prices are basically MSRP. There is not a lot of haggling. From all of my reading on this site over the years, I can honestly say it seems like the New England JD dealers as a whole charge more than other areas of the country. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

My experience was abit more extreme but basically yes...its msrp take it or leave it. The part that had me walking wasn't so much the huge price diff but the difficulty of doing business. Maybe he was having a bad week...or something. A couple months after getting my NH he called up to tell me my machine was in and setup. To that point I hadn't signed a P&S nor had I given him any indication he was even in the ballpark pricewise. When I told him I bought a NH he seemed mystified. At that time there was no diff between the various JD and NH models so I picked least expensive. Now w/ the 20 series theres a real difference which I would prefer over comparable in the NH line.

I heartily agree that their service dept is excellent.

So, with that being said, would you go back to them to buy a xx20? Or would you stick with the NH. I was just over at Chappell looking hard at at TC29DA. Don't know what the price is yet, but I don't want to pay sticker for a 4310 or 3120...

Would you still pick a NH over Green again?

Jim,

Maybe we had different salesmen at Rosencrantz (or went to different locations). I dealt with Mark Nickerson at their Kensington location. Bought my 425 from their Londonderry location and the experience was mediocre, but when I traded that for my 4100 in Kensington, Mark treated me REAL good on my trade (gave me back all but $800 of what I spent on the 425) on a 2 year old tractor. He was a pleasure to deal with and very professional. I did not try haggleing price, so I cannot speak to that.

And yes, their service department is first rate...

Mike
