Hello Everyone:
As usual, my used Simplicity Broadmoor wouldn't start this spring. I had done all the right things in the fall putting it away for the winter, but oh well.
It seemed as if no gas was getting to the carb. So I hauled it to the dealer, who removed the fuel pump, checked it out and put it back. Started fine for them. They replaced cracked rubber lines to the pump, changed the coil and also the fuel filter. Charge: $190!
I mentioned to them that there was a spray of oil on the top of the mower deck, and the call back I got said the oil pan gasket and seal were leaking and it would be $350-$400 in labor plus parts to replace them. Seems really high to me.
I've checked with two other dealers who seem to agree, but no guarantees, of course, that their price would be less.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to switch dealers, but I was curious:
How difficult is it to remove the B&S engine and replace the gasket & seal?
I'm handy but not particularly knowledgeable about engines. I'm able to take things apart and put them back together, if it's not too complicated.
What do you suggest?
I'd love to just go buy a new (used tractor), but man, they're pricey.
