Dealer Won\'t Sell a Tiller

I started thinking about getting a tiller for my YMG-1800d, so I called the local dealer I bought the tractor from. Conversation went something like this:
Me: Do you carry any tillers for the Yanmar tractors?
Dealer: Yeah. We've got a couple out back, but we don't have the driveshafts for them. They never came with the shipment. Besides you're tractor is too small for one of those. (how he knew, I'm not sure)
Me: Hmmm. I guess you have new ones?
Dealer: Yeah, they're pretty nice. heavy-duty.
Me: How much?
Dealer: About $1,300 or so.
Me: Hmmm.

So, of course, I came here and found that the Yanmar tiller does indeed have an unusual "drive shaft" (assuming he's talking about the top-link assembly). So, before I go back and try to negotiate for a tiller that he obviously doesn't want to sell (maybe he'll just give me one since they don't have all the parts /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif), I wanted to find out what a reasonable price would be. Will my little 1800 handle a tiller? Is there a place I can get a top-link (or fabricate one)?

Thanks in advance

Frank,
The third arm is the single top attachment bar. The PTO is the shaft that transfer the power from the tractor to the tiller. Do you have any idea what size the tillers are that the dealer has in stock? The tiller could very well be to big for that small of tractor.

Good to see you posting again Frank. Didn't you use to post on the Yahoo Yanmar forums? Anyway, your YMG1800 would easily run a 4ft tiller. As for the shaft, you could go to TSC or any other place that sells the PTO shafts and get one and cut it down to the correct length. As for the top link, it should not be too hard to get one for your tractor. There is a work around to standardize it so that you don't have to use the Yanmar top link. Typically the grey market tillers sell for about $100 per foot.

Hey Brent, Yeah, that's me. I've been hiding out in the rural living forum and lurking on this one as well. Thanks for the info. I'm going to go over and see what he's actually got in stock.
