Tractor
JD 2210
Though I'm just started my tractor shopping i've learned a lot. Mainly to demonstrate as much knowledge as possible when speaking with the Rep. At first I would enter a dealership and ask price right away and would get something outrageous like $3000 for a tiller for a JDX595. Today I visited a John Deere lawn and garden open house heading first to inspect the used units even though my "dream tractor" was parked there in the front. The rep approached and we talked about the used units a bit. Then I casually mentioned the "dream tractor" . I also quoted from the brochures and using correct terminology to demonstrate I had done my homework. As a result I think I recieved a fair quote; a 2210 with HDAP tires, FEL, 62"mmm, 72" rear blade, And a rototiller all for $15,300.oo

Your post reminded me of something I read in a book about negociating the price of a new car purchase: Always walk in with a folder of papers. The salesman knows right up front you've done your homework and you're not someone who just fell off the turnip truck.

I also found to that the more dealers I visited, the more knowledegable I became. As I neared the point where I was ready to make a deal, I knew as much about what I was buying as the salesman. That way I knew when I was being treated fairly and when I knew I was getting a decent price quote.

When it came to buying my tractor, I found it (JD 455) at a Kubota dealer. I looked it over closely and it was apparent from the others I'd seen that this was in fine, fine shape. I also knew what was a good deal based on what I'd learned at other dealers.

I just spent a whole day reviewing 3 tractors 1 of them being the 2210 the price the dealer wrote down was tractor w/ fel, 62" deck, 42" tiller and 5' rear blade he quoted 14,325.00 + the taxes. I was surprised as that was about the same or a litte less than the Kubota bx2230

eieio, So, are you going to take the plunge? Very tempting considering financing. A caseIH dealer warned me today about the rumored steel prices. no pressure. So I thought I got a decent quote till now. Now I gotta go back and get another $1000 out of the guy or maybe I can get him to throw in a snowblower?

mewantatractor, please pardon my ignorance, but what are HDAP tires? Also, Maybe your price difference is in the different sized rear blade, and you didn't say what size tiller, maybe larger? John

HDAP tires, might be something new; Heavy Duty All-Purpose tires, they're knobbies, look like snow/mud tires with a zigzag tread in the middle, very deep tread, look like good all around tires to me. I think I was quoted a RT1150 tiller might be a 50"? I should ask him about that, i 'don't really need one that wide but the brochure doesn't give dimensions for the tractor so I don't know the width.

Thanks mewantatractor (wish your name were smaller!) Now that you've described them, I believe I have seen some. John

Sounds like he'll have a shorter name soon!

Yeah, don't get too bent outta shape over the apparent $1K differance in bids, unless you can see them both itemized, there are so many ways to configuhese machines.
