When I moved to Texas, I had no experience with clay. At first I thought it was a nightmare, but in time I've grown to really like it. ALLOT!!!
Of course, there are different types and colors, so your's could very well be different. I have red, grey, yellow and dark brown. Each has it's own charactistics, but the red is what I use the most for my roads and pads.
I learned that if you build it up and create drainage on teh sides, it doesn't hold very much water and dries our very, very fast. In the areas that are flat, or hold water, it takes forever to dry out. Just a mess for days, if not weeks.
In your situation, it sounds like you have a flat area that is holding the water in the clay. It's gonna take some work, but you need to get some drainage in there and crown your driveway.
