not really, just sit on the road surface and deepen and widen the ditch. use the material you hammer out to make a berm above the road surface. if you get an excavator that has a blade it will level you road out after you are done. A week at the most for a 1000 ft...... Jim

Too bad you can't drill and blast the rock to break it up. Then all you would need is the excavator. Then there is that expanding mortar for breaking rocks that could be used too. Unspectacular, slow, but quiet. I wonder how practical it would be for your ditch?

I would bet he only needs to go down from 0 to a ft.+..... Jim
