I have a JD 1050 that has very sluggish 3PH response. Sometimes, the unit will not lift for 5 to 10 seconds after I move the lever, but then, it seems to rise at a normal rate.

It has been to the JD dealer 3 times. Each time they change the filter and flush the hydraulic fluid. Afterwards, the 3PH works OK for 5 to 10 hours. It seems that they do not want to identify and remove the source of the debris. They would rather just keep replacing the filters.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Take one of the clogged filters apart/cut and remove some of the filter element. If the filter is a paper type element, press the oil out of the element with your workbench vise. Open the element paper after pressing the oil out. The material clogging the filter will be left.

Rubber: Hydraulic hose, O-rings (If yes, are you using the correct oil?)
Plastic: from hyd. cylinder packing assembly, control valve
Vandalism: Was dirt or etc. added?
Metal shavings: (Aluminum or steel) Component failure! Pump, cylinder, control valve

The 1050 does not have many internal sources of debris. Do you know if they are finding metal filings or something else? The brakes are not wet nor does it have a wet clutch. Does the oil look milky or cloudy like it has water in it? If the hydraulics are sluggish, you might be sucking air in from the suction hose under the left step. If it is clogging te filter or screen with metallic debris, then you probably have a problem in the transmission. Is it noisy in any gears? Do all the gears and pto work ok? If so, you might need to disassemble transmission, differential or final drives to find the source. This can be very expensive in labor if you don't know where to start looking. Good Luck!

You could pull a sample of the fluid for testing to see what is floating around. I have used Blackstone Laboratories for engine oil in my car. There are lots of fluid testing facilities out there.

Being a Yanmar made tractor, I'm confident to say your tractor has a hydraulic screen (steel filter). I'm going to guess the dealer is changing the hydraulic filter and NOT removing and cleaning the pickup screen. This should be located toward the rear of your tractor, on the side of your trans / rear end..... probably just ahead of the rear axle. The cover will most likely be squarish, with four bolts holding it on. Pull the screen, clean it with a soft brush with kerosene........ make sure its dry before re-installing.

What about other hyd functions? Does your 1050 have power steering? How about a FEL? Problems with those operations, too? If you have 2 hyd pumps - main and aux - one or the other might have serious impeller wear.

Ductape's comment is a good one - I'd check with my dealer to see if they cleaned the sump filter at all..

Good luck.

I need to get out there and check for the presence of an oil screen. However, my manual indicates that the 1050 does not have a screen if it is equipped with an oil filter.

The unit does not have power steering.

Unless there are other suggestions, my next move will to disect the oil filter to determine what the debris is.

I have a yanmar 4300d which is , I"m told, the same tractor. My hydraulics on the 3pt system are slow. The engine rpm has to pick up to operate the lift. I haven't found a solution or the problem yet either.
