I know Madreferree's passing caught a lot of folks here at TBN offguard, and still folks are just finding out about it. What about a spot where the deceased TBN members could be located (kind of like an orbituary section of newspaper), where when we log on, we could click there and see if any members have passed since our last logon? I know it sounds kind of gruesome, but I would like to know sooner rather than later, as some may live near them and might like the opportunity to attend the funeral or send flowers. Maybe come up with another designation for name, instead of silver, gold, veteran, maybe "Gated Member" (pearly gate member). Come on folks, chime in here with your suggestion.

Afternoon BTDT,
Sounds like a good idea in concept, although I will pass on the "Gated Member" designation for the time being !;)

We at TBN have discussed this for quite a while. The idea has been to create a "memorial" remembrance for members who pass on.

It might include such things as a photo, bio, messages from friends, etc. I am less sure about including details of a funeral, requests for donations to charities and related things.

The concerns that have been raised center mainly on issues of privacy and respect for the family in their time of grief.

It certainly could be a thoughtful feature for the TBN community. Just need to make sure no one is offended, regardless of how well-intended we are. I personally think it could be awkward to ask "permission" of the family of a deceased member. They might not even be aware the member came on here. Death and funerals are for most families very private and personal, and not everyone wants that experience made "public".

We were ready to launch just such a "memorial" feature on TBN a couple of years ago. Just at that time someone posted a phony "death notice". We just backed off of the idea entirely at that time.

We cannot have even a single false report of a death. That then raises moderator/management issues of verifying the death, etc.

But, done right, I think it could be a good addition to TBN. Maybe someone could provide links to sites that have such a memorial area, that you feel are done tastefully and respectfully.
