John Deere 3320 John Deere x758
I have been trying to sell my 8 month old 3320 and 72D Autoconnect deck. There has been several people interested but all have been far away and don't want to drive here for it. I also have a 2010 4720 Cab tractor with 400CX loader. I have considered keeping the 3320 and selling my beloved 4720 and buying a lower cost tractor without a cab such as a Deere 5045E. Is this a stupid mistake? Any other thoughts? I could lower my payments about the same amount if I sold the 4720 and purchased a 5e series (non-cab) as if I sold the 3320.

???????????????????

I'm assuming you need to sell one of them...

Well, only you can decide which one to keep...sounds like you want the 4720 though...why?
Without knowing the work you do with the tractors, or why you bought a 3320 eight months ago, I will say this...the 4720 has the power to do what the 3320 can do...but the 3320 doesn't have the power to do what the 4720 is capable of doing.

As far as selling one of them...do you think your dealer would be willing to sell one (which ever you decide) on consignment?

BTW, if those "interested" people were really interested, they'd come to see it...just tire kickers...

I do a variety of work from mowing and spraying to some serious dirt and rock work. I have an area that I service which can involve 3 hours of travel one way. The amount of area and type of work I do usually requires 2 tractors and operators. This is why I came up with the idea to sell the 4720 for a lower cost unit and lower my payments at the same time. I will miss the cab but it is useless if I can't make the payments.

Then I guess you've made your decision...

Roy- The "tire kickers" were 2-3 states away. Deere is running some awesome finance deals so it makes selling that new of a "used" machine tough to sell.

Yeah...very true...and you'd likely take a substantial loss no matter what you do.
If I were you, I'd still talk to your dealer about consignment.

I'm with Roy on this one, I would consign one of the tractors with your dealer. A guy here locally did that with his low hour'ed 3720 and it was sold for $21k within 3 months at the dealer. I cant say it will be a fast sale but your local dealer has tire kickers looking for a deal on slightly used machinery. :)

Consign BOTH and see which one you end up with.

KB,

I remember when you first put the 3320 last fall. It is a great machine and someone would love it. If I remember your situation correctly, it's very similar to one I just ran into. A contractor in Montana just ran out of work for his 110, consigned it with his dealer, dealer put it on Machinery Trader, and I'm having it shipped 1800 miles to my house. I'd likely never seen it otherwise and would not have bought privately over that long distance. I'd consign the 3320 with your dealer, that 4720 is just so darned nice! See what the dealer thinks a fair list price would be and go from there. I know the 110 I just bought was listed for less than 2 weeks through the dealer. First week was me debating against myself and the second week was how long are negotiations took. That 3320 is a great tractor, expect to take a hit on it, but at least it will relieve you of some payments.
