Decisions Decisions - What's the best value Tractor?

Hi Everyone,

Never thought buying a tractor could be that complicated. But here I am after 3 weeks of analysis still thinking. Not so bad when I have read some of these threads that state months of critical thinking. Anyway, just thought that I would post what my final four are and get some feedback from this forum.

I plan to work about 10 acres of brush clearing, small tree felling, weeding, wood chipping, trench digging, earth moving and pond building and the maintenance that goes along with all that. I also want to grade driveway and parking areas to cement and dig for placement footing and retaining walls in a few places. My ground is dirt, decomposed granite, rocky and hilly. Have flat areas and plan to flatten a few more.

Here are the tractors I have narrowed the field to: Kioti CK35, kioti DK40SE, Yanmar LX4100HST, and LS G3038H. But, Massey Ferguson 1739 and 1742 also are trying to stay on the short list. Any comments on any of these would be appreciated.

So you are not stuck on having a local dealer. :thumbsup: That's good as long as you are able and willing to take care of things that might come up yourself.

Sort of wondering why some deluxe tractors and the LS not so much, does someone have a really good deal on that model for you?? Out of the tractors that you have listed, I would say that the Kioti DK40SE is your best bang for the buck machine.

But if you are considering LS, why not an R4041 if there are any left or a XR3037 or XR4040??

Just curious, what is the cost span of what all you have looked at and are considering?

Just wondering why you didn't look at a John Deere. Down the road they have proven to be worth more than any thing out there is my experience. Around here many farmers have sold their J.D. for as much as they paid for them after many years of use, just saying. I am not farming any more but have 3 Kubota's and one Yanmar.

Golly, any of your candidates will perform about the same -- poorly. You are way over-estimating what a CUT will do.

Yes, I have tentative deal on the LS3038H with Post hole digger/9 in auger, Wood Chipper 5", Pallet fork set, 6"rotory cutter, BH with 12" bucket, 60" box scraper and 60" loader all for $30.000. But, as you perceive, I really need a little bit more machine.

The Kioti DK40SE has the lead in my book as well right now. But I am still on the line for the others. Cost will probably be the end qualifier. Still waiting on a price comeback for the other models. It's like pulling teeth to get any of these dealers to commit to any costs and sometimes hard to get any data out of them. Most of my compilation has been from self research.

By the way the LS 4041 has also been one of the contenders.

I looked at the JD's. Just compared the others to be better values. Resale? ****, I'm not buying a used tractor for those reasons. Why buy used when you can buy new for the same basic price and get the deals offered. Cash is cash and hard to come by and keep. JD has a good product but not a value buy as far as I am concerned.

The best values the one that does everything you need as quickly, cheaply, efficiently as possible.

The do is a bigger frame and I think you should go bigger. For what you listed I think you should take a hard look at a utility sized tractor.

You might want to consider a used up commercial TLB like a 580 Case. You can get one for about what a hoe for one of these compacts cost and even though it might be 75% warn out, it will still dig circles around anything that you can buy for any of the compact tractors and you will have a loader that will lift 6000lbs.

Just a thought, may or may not be something that you would consider.

When I bought new I looked around for a used tractor similar to what I bought there was not any good deals on used ones anywhere around me. the John Deer and Kubota seem to have best resale around here.
