We do not own a dog, but with all dogs "eat all postings." Think about this thread the next time they lap you with their tongue:eek:

Cats are no better. They will eat grass or green plants just for the fun of vomiting. The worst morning I had was watching kitty eating his own vomit. Recycling :) Yummy.

ROFL!!! I couldn't help but laugh as it is so true! I don't know why they do it other than what you mentioned.

This thread is a hoot. Luckily, though, the dogs here don't really eat any weird or disgusting stuff.

It's too bad Junkman is not around here anymore. He is very familiar with pets. I am sure he could confirm this but I was on the understanding if dogs were eating grass it was because they are sick and trying to make themselves vomit. This was told to me by a Vet about 4 years ago when our Lab starting eating grass a lot. Maybe the Vet just wanted us to make another visit.

Sorry guys, but I may have the worst dog food story so far -- the one still living eats about anything, but favors fresh dung from the sheep and donkeys, with the donkey dung ranking higher on the menu. She also eats her own puke. Shortly after I got her and while she was still in training about where the property lines were she went for an exploratory hike around the neighborhood. This was in spring when the fields were being covered with the liquified contents of the local manure pits. The dog is basically white, but she came back from that outing basically green.

The little Scotch Terrier, now deceased after 14 1/2 years of life as a farm dog, would bring VERY dead roadkill back to the yard as a snack. I'm talking about groundhog remains that the buzzards were done with and the maggots were almost finished with. He also would haul in pieces of dead deer -- head, leg, length of intestine, etc. -- or whatever else he found that he couldn't eat in one sitting. He would sometimes get sick, but he lived so long I'm sure his eating habits were not detrimental to his health.

my wife had the bright idea of making dog treats for our Chihuahua. after mixing and baking the treats, she offered him one and he turned his nose up at them. a few minutes later he happily came back in into the kitchen with his perfered treat a cat litter cookie. talking about one mad wife. i saw the humor in this but, she didn't

Since this thread seems to be going for a while, I want to share another experience with the ol' hound dog.

My wife got a nice box of chocolates from her boss once. Truffle filled, big round things, wonderful tasting too. We each had one, and she left the rest (10 of 'em left) on the kitchen island. Well, ol' Zeke must have been hungry that day. I came home, and it looked like someone had a party! Wrappers all over the living room, but not a piece of chocolate to be seen. Yep, he ate ALL of them!

Well, chocolate's not good for dogs, and although she was hating him pretty bad at the moment, she still couldn't wish him dead. I called my sister, and she said use "one teaspoon per ten pounds of body weight". We didn't measure, just tipped the bottle and poured some in. In about 10 minutes, (outside of course) we got to see everything he'd eaten the whole day. Sure enough, there was a lot of chocolate in the mess.

Well, being a true hound dog, he started to eat it again! We pulled him away and he still wouldn't leave his "treasure". Finally, we scooped it up and buried it outside the fence.

Thanks for all the rest of the stories! I enjoyed them all, urk, mmmph...
