Deck shakes when PTO turned off

Yesteday while cutting a yard, Something didnt' sound right. I shut off the PTO and the deck shook pretty bad. I looked underneath and belt is fine. All pulley's turn easily by hand and blades aren't bent. The PTO turns on fine without any shaking and it cuts fine it's only when I shut off the PTO that the deck shakes... Only have 70 hours on mower..

Any thoughts?

Something is out of balance. Start by looking over all the blades real good.

Make sure the blades are swinging freely. If one gets grass wrapped around the pivot bolt it won't stay in synch with the other and the deck will shake like crazy. I've even seen a piece of wire get wrapped in there as well.

Edit, just realized you aren't likely talking about a rotary cutter, so the above probably doesn't help.

Safety note, make sure you block the mower up with something...a couple of jack stands, etc, before you get under there :thumbsup:

I'm trying to figure out WHAT kind of mower?? Rotary cutter?? Finish mower?? Flail??

All of these would require a difference answer...

IF it's a normal finish mower, the blades wouldn't swing "freely" and there wouldn't be a "pivot" bolt...

Check all the deck fastening linkage.

Are you sure it wasn't just clumps of wet grass falling off the underside of the deck onto the blades ?

With my mower deck, sometimes when you throttle it down, the rapid deceleration introduces just a little hiccup that knocks a clump of grass off the underside of the deck, that then causes a bigger shake when it hits the blades, which knocks off a bigger clump and a bigger shake, etc...etc...rinse and repeat.....

Maybe not, but youll find PLENTY pf people here with small machines of all types.

Lots of us have zero turns, riding mowers, etc and there are plenty of members who don't have a farm tractor, but find many of the other sections useful. You might find the same thing....lots of helpful people here
