Deer Feeders

What is the best type and brand of deer feeder? I have seen a "On-Time" brand feeder with a lifetime warrenty. Anybody?

A coworker has an On Time lifetime feeder (green barrel and tripod). He has had numerous other feeders including most recently economy Moultrie and top-end locally built models. None were to his satisfaction. The On Time uses AA batteries which are more economical than alkaline lantern batteries and last longer, according to him. My observation is that the unit is very well made, and the timer is precise. Cabella's or similar sells them for about $160.

I have a Kenco Lifetimer currently, in addition to an economy Moultrie. The Kenco has a digital readout, and has been extremely reliable for the past 6 months. The problem with economy models is that they are made of plastic and are easily broken or chewed by squirrels. Nothing can hurt a solid cast aluminum timer. In fact, my timer was submerged in a flood last fall, and after drying it out, it worked just fine. It also has a life time warranty, but at $99 for the feeder (no barrel) it is kind of pricey.

In conclusion, it is likely that most top-end models from established makers should suit you fine. I don't think you can go wrong with the On Time setup. Generally, as in all things, you get what you pay for.

I tried different feeders thru out the years..$$$$,and the best I found so far that works put the food on the ground and you shall notice more wildlife.
