I recently bought a '98 Deere 455. A few years back I had a 445. Both had the same issue. Slow speed in reverse. The reverse pedal doesn't stick up far enough to get full reverse speed. I can tell by hooking my foot under the forward pedal and pulling up. That helps but isn't always easy depending on the shoes you are wearing. One person I talked with screwed an extension to the reverse pedal. The pedal itself fits on a sloted shaft and I don't see a way to adjust it.

Anyone else have this issue and have come up with a solution?

You can add an extension on the reverse pedal. Or;

Likely there is also some wear that is causing some of the slowdown. Remove the seat and the fender deck, and you can see better what needs to be altered to get the reverse to working so its 'faster'. It's a rather simple two-pedal means to move a forward-neutral-reverse lever going to the hydro transmission.

I will take a closer look at the linkage. Could be some wear. My 445 was new back in '99 and it acted the same as this 455. The 455 has about 260 hours.

I traded the 445 for a 4410 compact back then. I still needed something to mow with so I found a clean 322 last year. It has really worked out well. I was always interested in a 455 if I ever ran into a nice one. I was at my dealer the other day with a friend picking up some parts when I noticed this like new 455 sitting there. Hard to decide on since I had the 322 but the 455 went home the next day. The 455 came with a MC519 cart and power flow to help bag the fall leaves. Kind of torn about keeping the 322 along with the 455.

I've had a 445 since 98, and the reverse has always been slow. My guess is that's by design. Deere probably doesn't want you going full bore backwards. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I do agree, however, that it could go a little faster, and not be dangerous.

Now, if you want the cat's pajamas too, add the hydraulic ram to the MC519 cart, and enjoy the "look ma, no hands" when emptying the load. I just put mine on for the fall, and had a ball yesterday picking up grass and leaves. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If you use your foot under the forward pedal you will see it will go faster in reverse. I found that out while trying to back and plow snow with my 445.

On the MC519. Is that a JD option? I heard about it and looked on the JD parts under MC519 and didn't see it.

My dealer carries a kit that they have made up, but it is not a Deere part (or kit). I have several friends who have added them on either their 400 series or the X series, because there are two hyd controls and two pair of remotes. They rave about them. I rave about mine too. Pic attached
Not sure why Deere doesn't offer the hyd. lift, but there are a lot of things I don't understand. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That is a nice setup to dump the cart. What does you dealer ask for that setup? Thanks for the picture. I might try and put something together myself.

Appears to be a cylinder, brackets, hoses, flow control valves and hyd. fittings. Pretty straight forward.

We have found that underneath the floorboard, where the linkage for forward and reverse pedals are, one of the brackets can bend down over time, and if you look under you might be able to see which one and push it back up. I'm not 100% sure if it's a replaceable part, or if we usually just bend it back up, but I know we've been able to change the reverse speed by fooling with something in that area.
Sorry this isn't much more specific.
