The John Deere 5075E rarely makes it off the property or uses road gear, but a few weeks back I made 3 trips (about 4 miles round trip each) over the course of an evening running hay wagons. About an hour or so between each trip. For the most part had it wide open in top gear (18mph).
When I put her in the shed that night I noticed the rear housing / axle / area around PTO seemed very warm, if not hot. (Should of infra-red thermostated it).
It was warm enough you didn't want to leave your hand there for more than 4, 5 seconds or so.

Is this normal for running in high gear after 4 miles (12 miles over the evening)?

Or is this related to what been reported (and I can't find the thread) problems with the 3 pth hydraulics? Hopefully somebody can recall the specifics. I seem to remember there's been a melted fuel tank or two? Do hydraulics go into relief if 3 pth raised too high, causing heating? I think I did have them all the way up, which isn't normal. Does anybody recall what the fix was if this was the case?

What is suppose to stop 3 pth at top limit if not relief? It seems you can (slightly/barely) hear a "change" when the 3 pth goes to the top. But I might be imagining this because it's so slight. Is this normal?

Maybe look for the 3 ph adjustment routine if you think it is going into relief and not kicking out.

Or try a repeat of the "hay" run to see if it holds true and heats up again.

On mine (albeit a 4300) there is a connecting rod with adjustments on the rocker arm that is connected to the control valve.

If you have the service tech manual for the 5075E, likely that adjustment procedure is spelled out there. But I could be wrong about it for your tractor.

I think it's normal. After running mine for a few hours there is so much heat that the floor gets very hot. I don't think it should be normal for the hydraulics to get that hot but they all seem to do it. After a couple hours mowing the sound of my steering and hydraulics change (get louder).

By chance are the brakes dragging?

Brakes don't seem to drag at all on mine. It's been split at the dealer for 3 weeks now.....again.
