There is a Deere 670 (18.5 hp) with 60 inch belly mower and 5 ft bush hog for about $6,250.

Can this tractor run a 5ft bush hog?

Is this a good price?

How much more will I have to spend to add a loader?

Would also appreciate any comments about this tractor (good and bad).

I will be using the tractor to cut about 3.5 acres of grass/pasture, snow removal of 700 ft driveway (slope).

I may add a tiller later. . .

Thanks

The 670 has 16 HP @ the PTO.
Although Land Pride recommends 20 PTO HP minimum, I ran a 5' Land Pride cutter through about an acre of tall thick brush with little trouble. It's just going to be slow going, which unless you know what's in and under the brush, is probably a good thing.

You should have front weights. Even then, a 5' cutter will make the front end light when you have the cutter raised in transport. Also, unless you know what's under the brush, you may find backing into the stuff easier and safer. Do not use the cutter raised up!

That 670 is a very robust tractor. Even with 16 PTO HP, you'll run out of traction before you run out of power. I think you'll like it. I think you'd like it even more if it has a loader. It takes a Deere #60 loader if you can find one. I'm sure you can find an aftermarket loader. Figure around $3500...

I had mine about 3 years. I was very happy with it. However, I wanted more PTO power to run a chipper. Just happened to get a really good deal on a low hours 790, so I traded.

As far as the price, I paid $8500 for the tractor (with loader) and a 5' rear finishing mower. I got $7000 on the trade (just the tractor...I kept the mower) which was sold (in three days by a dealer) for $8000. Since you don't get a loader, but do get a belly mower and cutter, I think the price asked is really good.

Good luck!

I use a JD 413 brush cutter (4') on mine, and that is what the brochure called for as well. Having said that, I've used my friends 513 with no problems cutting pasture grass....no major brush, but it handled it fine. With either cutter, you'll need some weight on front, but if the cutter is with the tractor it probably has front weights already.

As for the tractor, I love mine. I just recently refinished the deck, and that deck gives a VERY good cut. Surprised me really....the yard looks better when I use the tractor than it does when I push mow. I'm currently getting the parts together for the top'n'tilt. I did shim up the hydraulic pressure a bit, which makes the boom pole more capable. The tractor has 430 hours on it, with the only broken part so far being the clutch return spring. I paid $5000 for mine without any attachments last year, and since yours comes with the belly mower and brush hog, I think that is a fair price. I've seen them go for much more on eBay. As for the loader, I believe the model 60 is the one for the 670, and I don't believe it is available new any longer, but I see those on eBay from time to time also. Probably around $3k or less for a used one. I have the JD 550 tiller for mine, which it handles with no problem. Traction is an issue with the box blade, but I've still got to get some EZ weights which should help. I've got everything from the brochures to the shop manual if you need any more info.

I run a 5' bush hog behind my JD 755 with no problems. 20hp/15hp PTO. I've cut some very tall grass/brush with it both on level ground and rolling terrain. I was going slow but it was as fast as wanted to go in unknown/uneven ground. I don't think you will have any problems.

I also mowed about 3 acres of pasture with it but now that the pasture has been cleaned of any rocks, heavy brush, etc., I use the MMM raised all the way up.

"snow removal of 700 ft driveway (slope)."

That's a pretty long drive!
I used my 670 for snow removal on a drive of ~150'. I used a back blade. The Loader was used to a limited degree as well.

However, since this machine has a mid-PTO, you might want to look for a snow blower. A rear blower would work great, but that's a bit tough on the neck (as is using a rear blade). Downside is a front blower is pretty expensive.

I had bar turfs on the 670. They were great! More aggresive then standard turfs, but not as tough on the lawn as ag tires (so far, the industrials on my 790 haven't been too bad on the lawn). If this 670 has turfs, you might want to consider upgrading to bar turfs. The attached pic shows the bar turfs and the 5' Land Pride I use.
