I don't know when they quit making them.........but I will tell you this.....they are the predecessor of the 790. The only difference that I can see is the horsepower. I looked at 790s when I bought my 770........and I got a better deal because the 770 was older. I did not care.........$$$$ saved is $$$$$$ earned.:D Now let me qualify that.......a 770 with a 70 loader is no match against a 790 with a 300 series loader.......but if it is tractor to tractor then HP is the only diffrence. In fact when I bought new front wheels for my 770 last year......I bought 790 wheels.

So what is the big differance with the 300 loader?

I believe that you will be able to pick up a heavier load with the 300 FEL than with the 70 FEL. Now with that said it all depends on what you are going to use the FEL for. I have not found that to be a hinderence to me yet in the projects I have done. I will say that the older style bucket on the 70 FEL is not desirable for dirt work in my opinion.
