Hello all, this is my first post.
I am restoring a 1997 JD855-4wd compact tractor. There are two removable engine side panels that have a piece of foam insulation running vertically down the front of each panel. This foam is 1 inch by 1 inch by 14 inches long, Old residue seems to indicate the foam was glued to a 1/2 inch lip also running vertically, but when I place the foam there it does not appear that it would be the best most secure manner as this 1/2 inch lip has cut-outs in the panel design where the glue would not have much to adhere too. I'm not sure what this foam actually does? Maybe prevent vibration in the front of the panel near the grill area or just keep grass and debris from entering the engine area?
Could someone with a similar tractor please take a look and post a photo or advise me. The foam part number is M71401. I typed this message out (two finger typist) and had a link to the Deere parts page but when I tried to post the forum deleted all my typing cause I can't post links as a new member. The parts diagram does not show a good photo of actually where the foam gets attached---To the lip or to the flat section of the panel right up against the lip. Thanks
