I only have dialup service and find that loading takes much longer with the Deere advert that uses flash player.
(The one wherby the tractor mounts a mower and then adds a loader).
I gather that a lot of rural users are faced with 'Dial up' only service.
Perhaps Deere could redesign out of consideration to us 'slower folks'.
Otherwise would like to add my praises for this site as it is part of 'my daily reading'.

Hi Bob,

Banner ads can be frustrating for those on dial-up access. When we lived in the country we had 26K dial-up for many years. It can be real slow.

Web sites and advertisers do design their offerings to accommodate the majority of users. Today, nearly 65% of Internet users in America have some form of broadband access.

If it is not available to you, I suggest you use one of the "ad blockers" that will prevent such ads from appearing at all. That is the only reasonable and immediate solution for you I can think of you.

Ad-Shield is only $20.

Search on Google for "free ad blocker" and you'll find many choices.

Just make sure that any ad blocker you want to use does not install any kind of it's own adware, which can be worse than the banner ds. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hope this helps.

Money!! Bet that of your 65% hi speed less than half read TBN. I would say that more tractors are owned by dial ups than dish or cable people. bcs

We could take an un-scientific pole of who uses dial-up VS who uses anything else. Anything else would be something other than dial-up. Many folks check TBN at their place of employment, too, so they have access to both. So the survey would have to include dial-up, higher speed, or both.

I use both. The only difference I have noticed at home on dial up is that the first time a graphic loads, it is slow. However, once a graphic loads I believe it is held in my cache and doesn't download again. Not sure about flash presentations, but I think they are cached as well, just like jpegs, gifs, etc....

I have just bought a new computer a Pentium d
this has all the latest inside..............
I have satilite connection.................
THIS IS THE SLOWEST WEB SITE THAT I LOOK AT.............

I use to look at all of the chat lines but I Do not have the time to do it any more as THIS WEB SITE HAS SLOWED DOWN.

The numbers at the bottom of the page that it takes to load a page IS NOT the time it takes..................

I visit many other websites and this one loads the same as any other at both my locations. The number at the bottom is not the speed that it is downloaded to your site. There could be many problems/bottlenecks between the place where the website is hosted and your end. I surf TBN at home on 28.8 and it only takes a few seconds for each page to come in. Very snappy for dial-up.

Maybe 65% have hi speed but in most rural areas it is not available.

Guess that they figure that rural folks (farmers) no longer use tractors and implements.

All I know is that my TBN time is limited so I now read much less trends as too much valuable time is used up waiting dor the green tractor to couple to the loader.

And the darn thing has to reload every time I click back to 'INDEX'.

Is Deere getting the kind of exposure they wished for?
Does TBN only want readers to look at Green tractors rather than browse trends?

FYI, I am logged at 46667 bps which is not bad for dialup.
I also have adaware and skybot installed as well as a 'speed-up pgm' from the server called V2 service.(this reduces the pic quality for faster loading)

Of course I'm now using the 750k DSL service and this page "Generated in 0.199 seconds in which 0.191 seconds were spent on a total of 6 queries. Zlib compression enabled." The last page generated in 0.065 seconds. It think TBN is as fast as any site for me.

Not to get in any spitting contests here or anything, TBN is slower when the Deere ad is up. Not slow as in extremely slow but it does add a second or two to the process, you can tell when you hit the refresh on the main index. Just wish that he could that loader mounted a little faster. My JD came with the loader on. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just an FYI...
These values are calculated by the server (prior to your computer even getting the page) to show server performance. Your computer and your connection to the Internet have no impact on these values.

Dave, I'm using Norton SystemWorks and Norton's Personal Firewall for virus protection, ad blocker, etc. and don't use any of the others that our members have recommended. I've no doubt some of them are as good or better, since I know many of our members know a lot more about computers than I do (you don't have to know much about computers to know more than I do /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif) but I've had good luck with Norton so I just stay with it. I guess the result is that I've never seen the ads some members complain about, and maybe? that's the reason TBN is so fast for me.

This is what is at the bottom of the page when i click to reply to U............ But.........it took 10 seconds to open so that I could reply to U'''\
I like to look at ALL area's of the board and all chats so add 10 sec berween every move on the BB and U will spend 2 or 3 hours every day............
Help some one PLEASE

I'm on dialup, it takes forever to load a picture for me. There is supposed to be a tower built in the very near future so I will be able to get DSL, I can hardly wait!!!! I have high speed at work so I know what I'm missing.

I use McAfee and a pop up blocker which has protected my PC well for the last few years. If the slowness is due to the ad, it is a small price to pay for the information here.

Guess my problem is the same as a lot of other people, when you go somewhere ya want it right now and a second or even half a second is not fast enough. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just went to the main index and hit refresh, 3 to 4 seconds for the list of posts to appear.

Remove macromedia flash from your computer and you won't have to be bothered with any flash productions. Things will speed up.
If you have an instance where you just have to have flash to view something, you can reinstall pretty quickly and then get rid of it again. You can also find software that will block flash.

I see the micro and millisecond numbers listed too.. but when you are on dialup.. it still takes you 30 seconds to see the messgae that was generasted in .023 seconds due to the fance moving graphics that have to be redownloaded ...every time. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I've tried setting my pop up blocker to 'paranoid'.. and that doesn't stop it. Reducing my macromedia flash player to lowest detal setting does help.. but messes upother needed aspects of many other websites I use.. namely things with animated sections.. etc.

Forgot to add.. I'm on dialup.

The price to get high speed where I live is just too prohibitive.. I'm already paying too much to have the sunshine and air piped in /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Seriously though.. fiber is only 1 subdivision away.. but they want $$ per foot to lay.. DSL doesn't have options under 1.5mb here.. so is expensive with long term contract and other hardware needed, to boot.

... oh well.. I guess I'll keep plugging on with my antique tractors and antique dial in till they phase out dial in and I have to upgrade /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
