deere D155 deck belt issue

I love my Deere but last week I was mowing along and the belt popped off. I found a diagram online and got the belt back on. And the blades engage but something is not right because the cut is weak. It cuts, but nothing like it should and did before.

I'm certain that the ROUTING of the belt is right. But I'm not at all sure about the where the "twists" are supposed to be because the v-belt is supposed to ride the pulleys on the V side and on the idlers on the flat side. I read at least one note that suggested the belt would fall into place when engaged but I don't think mine is right. The manual says nothing about this.

Any ideas???

Well, twist isn't really accurate. You seem to have the gist of the positioning of the belt, though it must travel flat w/o being twisted to be clear. Perhaps is the tension spring broken and the tension is light?

Thanks that helps. I think when the belt initially popped off, it got in a twist and I assumed some of that was normal.

Belt runs 'flat' with no twists as in this diagram:



It is easiest to fit if you remove both plastic side covers, (10mm Socket wrench) and loosen the idlers (15mm nuts). There is also a guide frame around the centre spindle pulley which needs to be loosened (10mm socket wrench). Refit this frame as soon as you have the belt set onto this spindles pulley.

After getting the belt routed correctly, roll it onto the PTO clutch and then verify all is settled on the mower deck before refitting the covers.
