kubota L3400HST
I am shopping for a small tractor to use in my landscape business... mostly moving mulch, topsoil, and some grading with box blade.

I have looked at the following, all gear drive with FEL but before tax:

Deere 790 - $14,945
Kubota L2800 - $14,530
Kubota L3400 - $15,300
Mahindra 2615 - $13,990

The Mahindra specs look best on paper, but I am concerned about resale values. I will probably only use this tractor 100-150 hrs. per year. What would you all suggest? Experienced replies appreciated!!

Thanks in advance for replies.

Welcome Westbrook Lawn. You should fill out your profile so we know more about your needs. Not nosey mind ya and wondering if you are from Westbrook, ME. Anyway to get back to you question. The Mahindra 2615 is a Mitsubishi engine and drivetrain, essentially the same as 26HP model produced by Mit. and sold by Cub Cadet for a number of years. I have a CC 7234, 23HP 4WD, and the Mahindra and CC look just about identical other than one is Red and other Yellow. The tractor is a workhorse and very capable but you might find the resale is a little less than the other major manufacturers. I have seen these used in and around many job sites and landscapers but there aren't as many as the other brands. I agree with your assessment of the spec. when I bought mine I felt they were much better than the competitors and the price was much better as well. Excellent tractor as far as I'm concerned.

Westbrooke Lawn, Mahindra tractor company is a very large company and are a magor player in the world tractor market, number 4 to be exact. Larger than kubota world wide. Here in the US Kubota was in Mahindra's position 25 - 30 years ago, and are now #1 in US market share. Used kubota resale value has increased as the company has progressed in this country. Today Mahindra is on the same path that kubota has taken, which will let you buy new at a bargain price, as they grow the resale value of the used machines will improve. It seems like a good situation to take advantage of. Hope I have been helpful Good luck with your desision.

There is a buying pricing comparison group on this site where you might get more responses. Of course if you post in the mahindra group, we are going to highly recommend mahindra!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I know resale is important to most people, but I would take value over resale anyday! Mahindra hands down.

Not wanting to argue, but I'm under the impression that in the US, Mahindra is #4 (Kubota, John Deere and Case/New Holland being #1, #2 & #3 respectively in the American CUT market with them reportedly having over 85% of the market share??? {I've actually heard about 90% but I don't believe it}) . . . but in the world wide market, I was under the impression that the ranking was Case/New Holland, followed by John Deere followed by Mahindra at #3?

Just curious, but if Mahindra is #4 in the world, then who is #3 in the world market?

Oh, that's easy. According to the kid I spoke with at Rural King a few weeks ago, #3 would be Tractor King. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Will, in the world market, Case/New Holland is the largest producer of agricultural equipment. John Deere is #2. I don't know who is #3, but I thought it was M&M (Mahindra).

Well... I made a decision and went with the Kubota L3400. For about $500 more I got 34hp, and greater lift capacities. I liked the Mahindra a lot, but felt this was a better fit, especially in terms of power and re-sale.

They had to put the loader on, so I pick it up Monday.

Thanks to all for your comments.

Bob, Are we talking about Ford/New Holland or did I miss something because I thought Case went in with IH and then fell way behind.
