I wish I had bought JD stock years back.. It has split several times and still seems to climb back up to big heights..

Personally I'm delighted that they are profitable. They are, after all a US company. With so many US companies going belly up or downsizing, I would think that a well run, US company beating the profit projections would be an occasion to rejoice. Yes, JD tractors are expensive, but when my livelihood is at risk, I buy quality.

It's a whole lot better story than what's been coming out of Detroit of late. Seems JD has their act together. Think how well they would be doing in a booming economy. For curiosity, I wonder how the red, blue and orange tractors compare?

Thats why I buyDeere Tractors and Ford trucks. Looks like they are the only ones lately doing things right.

I expected Jd ag to have a good year in 2008 and 2009. The ag sector was very strong both years. 2010 will not be a good. There is a lot of farm machinery sitting on dealer lots. Both new and lease returns. In 2008 when looking for a tractor, I had significant trouble even finding various models in JD or Case-IH to look at over a 150 mile radius and I live where there are lots of ag dealers. JD at that time was unable to tell me when at tractor, combine or planter at that time would even arrive. Now, there are lots of tractors on dealer lots. 2009 ag income was soft compared to prior years. Land prices were booming in 08, have now leveled off and decreased slightly. Finally purchased 2 Case-IH tractors in the last half of 2008 and both arrived in about 6 months after ordered. Comparable JDs ran 10-20% higher and had no idea of when they would arrive - could be near a year from the time I ordered. Lots of sales in 2009 were probably placed in 2008.

The article estimates a 10% increase for JD. I think that is very optimistic.

Deere is not just USA.. but world wide. A reason they are so big in agriculture is parts availability. I have had people time and time again " There products are made to last and twenty years from now you still can buy replacement parts to keep them going. " Their dealer network provides good service after the sale. Something many companies miss out on. Between New Holland, Cat, and John Deere I believe your buying the best products currently available.

Deere was one of the first stocks i ever bought and still have.Back in fall of 87 the year i got out of college. My old man talked me into it and im sure glad i usually listen to him! Its had good and bad times but in the end a good company strategy always seems to succeed.
