Dealer Deere protects arrogant dealers?

I can't really comment on bad JD dealers since mine has been exceptional. Parts are plentiful and the help is excellent. But I must admit that I am going to a one store owner and not a multi-store dealership.

It was explained to me last year that the local dealer gets a discount and can pass it on. The faraway dealer gets no discount rebate. Thus, the higher price.

That's the way I understand it, too. It's not that they can't or won't sell it to you, just that they can't pass on that additional discount.

So, it you are that pizzzed at a dealer and really want a particular tractor find a way to work with a dealer you like. Doesn't seem that hard to me.

Too bad about your local dealer. Fortunately there are plenty of dealers around me of all colors. The JD dealers here are a cut above the others. But our Kabota, Case and NH dealers are pretty good. The Kabota dealer used to be second rate but it was sold and the new owners have really turned it around. My JD salesman restores old tractors, uses email and is generally a nice guy.

I found a JD 110 TLB for a friend. It was in another state but a screaming good deal. It turned out he could get it delivered to him for cheaper than what the local dealer was offering (by quite a bit). He told the local dealer and he matched the price.

So my guess is that this is not so black and white as people are thinking.

As to the JD lawn tractor/mowers; The ones they sell in Lowes and Home Depot were created just for that purpose, to be cheap enough for the HI stores. The local dealerships don't really like to sell them because they don't feel they are good enough. Even the zero turns. They still stock some of them, but with the lowered quality and the rock bottom margin, they aren't really motived to move them.
I love my LX280. It works wonderfully and drives great. I even cut a pasture once when the grass was taller than it was, and it has a mulching deck on it!

I guess this entire post can be summed up simply...

Good Dealers are Good Dealers...."Arrogant Dealers" are Arrogant Dealers....Regardless of color, brand, size, etc....

I think there are programs out there for dealers that we as consumers dont know about (I know it was the case for the Automotive dealer I worked at)... some are meant for conquest...some are for brand loyalty, etc.. Some auto dealers kept the money in their own pockets and some passed the savings onto the consumer in one way or other..I bet the "good dealers" pass it on to get you into their color tractor...the others go have a steak dinner on you.
