I did not get any response in the "lawn and garden" section. I have found a couple of x495's. One has about 180 hours and is $7800. The other looks a little more rough, has close to 600 hours and is $6800. I can't find what they cost new, and wonder how good or bad a buy these would be. Thanks, for any input. JC

How good a deal it is depends on the options it may or may not have on it. If the newer one has a 3pt hitch and rear PTO, then it is a pretty darn good deal. Those will cost you close to a thousand to add, if you decide to add them. You won't get it for less -- the PTO kits go for more than JD list on eBay. Is it two wheel steer or 4 wheel steer? The 4 wheel steer was an available option, and if mowing is your primary goal, it can be great. There are rumblings of long term longevity issues, and some implements are not compatible with 4WS. There's no doubt it adds complexity, but it may be just what you need. The X495 is the newer version of my 455. If I could have found a used X495 when I bought my 455, I might have gone that route.

You can look at all the specs and features here:

Those prices sound about right. Check out tractorhouse.com under lawn and garden. They have 24 x495's listed around the country. That should provide a pretty good comparison.

If you don't mind me asking, why are you in the market for a x495? Don't you mow w/ your 2520?

That to me is an average deal. It is not exceptionally good, but certainly adequate. I would prefer the machine in better shape to the rougher one.

Before I bought my 2520, I had a x475 and was very happy with it. I also had a JD 650 that was getting old. I went to look at new and thought I needed a gator. I could not have a new tractor, a year old x475 and a gator. I traded the gator for the new gator this year, put seven hours on it and just was not happy with it. I took it back to dealer and noticed the used x495's. Now my mind is working overtime to justify getting the 495 and selling my 62d.
My wife does not understand either. JC

Rolltide, just for the record, I didn't say I didn't understand, just wanted to know what your thought process was.

I too have a 2520, but that doesn't keep me from longingly looking at X495/X595's as well. I was just hoping if you had a very compelling argument for your wife you might be willing to share it with me.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Both of them are pretty expensive for used when you can get new for less
I bought a new CC Gt 2554 for 3500.
I added a front blade ,tiller, and ag rear tires for another 1550.
The whole package was only 5050 and it's new with a warranty .

I may be wrong, but I believe the x495 he is looking at is a diesel, and as mentioned with 3pt hitch and rear pto. Hard to compare to the CC GT 2554. Deeres never price match up to CC anyway, so no point in comparing....

I'm happy for you. I don't want a Cub anything, If I did, I would poke around the cub forum. JC

I wish no offense to any CC member and LBrown I know is one of our most loyal and well-thought posters, but there is a reason these JD machines mentioned are more expensive. The X495 is a really durable commercial level machine. The CC is a top-notch homeowner's machine. Our local college uses these machines and have two that are well over 2500 hours in use. They traded in a 455 with over 5000 hours on it to get a new X series mower. The deal mentioned to me is a decent, but not great deal. The problem with these machines is that they are very popular and do not last long. This generally means even one with hundreds of hours will bring top dollar. I have seen several of them that to me look pretty rough that are fetching really high sale prices. In this forum people speak often about how "overpriced" and how the x series machines do not hold value. I have found nothing true about that statement. My X 595 brought top dollar when I sold it and lasted three days with the dealer before it and all its attachments were gone. My previous 485 lasted almost one week, but came within 500 dollars of its original purchase price. The point is it is very tough to find one that is in good shape that will not bring a high price. Because of their inherant durability, a several hundred hour X series has the lifespan, or more, of a new homeowners (or even commercial) machine.
