I would have never thought that any part of a tractor housing main frame would be made of aluminum.
So happy to know about this. You can bet if I ever look for another one I will be checking that out.
Amazing that we look for balast and fill tires for traction and they start building lighter tractors, go figure.

I too would prefer steel castings, but they aren't necessarily stronger then aluminum. We don't know how the OP broke that casting...and it doesn't look like we'll find out (refering to Kennyd's last post).
Anyway, the design, alloying and other factors can resut in a pretty tough aluminum casting. Can't say I've read of a rash of them cracking either.
