I'm thinking of putting a number of sunflowers in the garden this year, maybe 100 or so. Our 2 year old son will have a blast with a forest of huge flowers he can see from his window and go play in. And my wife has been eating sunflower seeds in salads, soups, etc. I'd like to be ready to process them so we can eat them. If that fails, plan b would be that we enjoy feeding/watching the birds so they'd eat well next winter. I've read that you can put sunflower seeds through a (properly adjusted) grain mill to dehull them, but I have zero experience with mills. Some searching shows there are different types of mills and I don't want to get the wrong type. Can anyone give me a quick rundown on dehulling sunflower seeds with a mill? Or a link?
How about storing sunflower seeds for human consumption? better to leave them in the shell for storage? roasted/uncooked?
Thanks
Keith
