Tractor
JD 2320; 4520
Well, folks, I sold my 4520. My dealer introduced me to a man who runs a large landscaping company and needed a large frame compact. Although I loved the tractor, there were some issues with it I could not resolve. First, it was too big to fit in some areas I needed to access. Second, it displaced my wife's car from our garage (oops). And finally, what a pain to haul!! Even with a 250 pickup, and heavy duty trailer (2722# by itself), a 4520 with 4n1 bucket, 72" box blade and front/rear loaded R4 tires is a major load, so traveling the narrow, steep mountain roads, sometimes in bad weather, could be harrowing, especially on downhills. That said, the 4520 is a fine machine and I really enjoyed it. If I had more property and could keep the machine in one location more, I would have kept it. That said, I have returned to my roots. I just ordered another 3720 with large R4 tires, ehydro with auto cruise, third SCV, heavy duty grill guard and air ride seat, with the 300 cx loader and HD bucket (no 4n1 this time). I am getting the new I match hitch, and a GM 2072 RFM by Frontier. I still have a 2060 BB from my PREVIOUS 3720 tractor. Everything should be here within three weeks. Do I have to post another review once it is in???

So are you gonna get the 3720 with the Yanmar engine, or is this one gonna have the new Daewoo engine?

Holy tractor puchases!! WOW. I did not think you would do it because of the wide stance on the 4x20s!! Congrats on the new 3720 purchase! You know I love the 3X20 series!

BTW John with your advice I ordered a RB2072. It arrived today. I had to add the bushings for the IMatch to work with the side pins but the welded top link was made for the Imatch.

Two more purchases to go - rear tiller and BoxBlade! You still liking your box blade at 60" or would you go with the 72" if you did it over again??

Did you sell that 4n1 bucket with the tractor??

Mike,

I think you will really like the RB2072. As far as the box blade goes, I think the 60" is about perfect for my needs. As you know my drive is pretty steep and I think a 72" would be a bit much for a mid frame on this terrain. I think if you are considering one, given where you live, you might be able to go with a 72", but it really isn't that much more productive. With what I box bladed here, it seemed I could do about as much about as fast with the five footer, and had a little more manuverablity. And yes, the gentleman who bought the 4520 really wanted the 4n1 bucket. I will really miss that 4520, what a good machine, but in this case practicality won over. Just the ease of hauling it alone makes it a smart move.

How is your bridge over the creek doing? Did you get much precip this year - any flooding?

Mike,

Thanks for asking. About two months ago they fixed the bridge (actually replaced it with a new one). By report, this one is rated for an 80,000# truck (if one could fit on it), so we are good on this. I was disappointed with our snowfall this year. No flooding, though. Unfortunately, despite getting about six snowfalls, only one was noteworthy. We received 7" at my home, but the top of the mountain was around 15". The locals tell of these monumental snowfalls (30" in 2000 and 5 FEET in 1993, among others) but we have yet to see it since living here.
