Hi All,
I am new to all of this. I install predator fencing in NE. Generally the fences I install are for home owners who have 2 - 30 acres and are desperately looking to keep the 4 legged varieties of munchers out of their gardens or the big fury bears away from the bees and or coyotes from snatching the family pets. The fencing install incorporates split rail, stone walls, attractive architectural entrances and all melds into the landscape so it is not intrusive.
In addition to the fencing I do my share of brush hogging both with a walk behind rig which handles a 2-1/2" sapling and a 6' wide brush hog on a 4560 series JD 4x4 tractor. The tractor has a log splitter, backhoe, chipper and skidding logging winch attachments. The tractor is in VT and is used to maintain our sugarbush.
I am in need of a hydraulic power pack and was originally thinking of a Stanley TrackDump because it would handle a load and it would handle the tools I use, rock drills, post driver and auger. Then I thought if I went to a small excavator like a Yanmar S100 or Kamatsu PC78US with a DENIS CIMAF head DAH50 or 60 I would be able to mulch and have a hydraulic platform. But which one with which head would someone suggest? I have no idea how much these heads cost and their limitations but the videos are impressive.
The small excavator with an angling blade would give stability on moderate inclines and have the ability to run auxiliary equipment when needed. This could allow me to expand.
The majority of my clearing/cutting is 4" or less with a few items being larger. Then do you get an excavator with rubber tracks or with metal tracks? What are the advantages to either?
Can you veterans shed some light on these questions for me? Many thanks in advance.
