Got sick of dragging my chains out every other time I get on the tractor. I was leaving the little one on the floorboard. That got a little hairy when I was working on a muddy hillside and it slid under the differential lock pedal. I had my hands doing three things and both feet working. Had to stop and move the chain, wasnt a real good place to have hands off the wheel.

I looked around for a metal box, I dont have a welder, torches or any of that stuff. I do have a sawzall and a grinder /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I asked at work what they were going to do with some old payphone pedestals. The answer was junk them. Soooooo..

The attachment is the bottom of a payphone ped with a 15 foot, 12 foot and a 6 foot chain in it. So far it works great. The 6 footer is just tossed on top since its the one that is used most. The 12 goes in first and the 15 in second. You have to pull the 15 first but if I am not using the 6 then I am using the 15 so it works out.

Very good idea, I also had a 15 ft. chain under foot, it also got in the way of my dif. lock. I will see what I can find, maybe an old ammo box would work.. Did you put drain holes in the bottom?? Might be a good idea also.. John

There is a 3 in hole in the bottom. I just took one of the scrap pieces and tossed it in the inside. It is about 6 in long, 4 in wide and bent in a L with the short side about 1/2 in. It is in angle side up so there is plenty of drainage.

I kept thinking ammo can, and if there was just one chain, maybe. The metal is thinner than the payphone ped. Heck, if ya got one, or even have to buy ine, you are only out 5 bucks if it dies in a year.

Great solution. I have had the same problem with chains on the floor. It looks loke you didn't have to modify the loader frame at all. I also like the ammo can idea, I only carry a ten foot long chain most of the time. An ammo can would also make a good toolbox.

You can also use a piece of 3" or 4" PVC pipe for a chain holder. Won't rust and you can put a cap on the end and drill some holes in it for drainage. Would recommend 1/2" holes so some of the dirt can get out too.

I didnt drill or mod anything. I bent a hanger out of extra payphone ped and drilled holes for bolts and just hung it on the loader frame.

I thought about 4 in PVC, probably have to go sced 80 and I didnt have that lying around.

My Scottish wont let me spend until I have exausted all other means of dumpster diving. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
