Destroyed trailer jack

Took my L3240 to dealer on my 16' dual axle trailer. Had moved a BX2350 and a F2880E on the trailer before with no problems. Keep my trailer up on the hill accessed by a gravel maintenance road. Hooked trailer to my Avalanche and started down hill. Kept hearing rattling and grinding noise. Stopped and looked back but truck was sort of sliding down the hill even with brakes locked so didn't get out. Knew I locked rear mesh loading gate up, strapped tractor down and could see bucket and tractor so knew they were secure. At the bottom of the hill I swung wide into my yard to make the turn. Felt a resistance and loud scrap. Got out and saw my lift jack had hit the big rock at ground level in my yard and was bent pretty bad. Also when unloading tractor the mesh did bend on one side. My trailer was level with the hitch I have on my truck but when I put the L3240 on it the weight dropped the level of the trailer so the front jack was just skimming the ground when raised to it's maximum height. I could see it looked like the tires were low on air when the L was loaded but back to normal when unloaded. Bought 6 pieces of 3/16" angle iron yesterday to have welded up the ramp. The mesh held but did bend on one side so need a bit more support and any extra weight makes more to lift so did not get 1/4" and wanted more than 1/8". Also went to TSC and bought a jack that will turn up when traveling and then turn back down when unloading and storing. I'm now out more of the expense of education!

For all the years that I've been towing I don't even want to think of the jacks that I've had to replace from dragging them for one reason or another.
Some because I did damage them and some just because I could see that without a fold up, they would be damaged!

ouch !! I dont have a trailer jack in the back but i wished i did. When going on the trailer with BX24 and unload the gravel from local quarry, the back end would sag and wiggle from the weight. Previously i would jam a peice of 2by6 under there. by the time i was done unloading i could move the wood out easily by hand. Now after reading what happened to you, If i add a jack ill make sure its the kind i can swivel to parallel to road when done. Sorry to hear what happened to you tho.

Try a couple of jack stands. Cheap, stable, gone when you don't need them.

Funny you mention this. Took my 18' 7k GVW trailer to the Kubota dealer to pick up my new 3240 w/ fel 2 weeks ago. When I loaded it my tires went to flat as well, the trailer creaked and moaned wheels bowed out/in. That tractor put a hurtin on that trailer. I filled the trailer tires at the dealer. Then I took it to the tractor tire store and had the rears filled with 900 additional lbs. I thought the trailer was gonna brek in half. As it turned out it did just fine, but that is a heavy unit. My previous HN 1925 w/ fel and filled rears didn't phase it.
