thinking about getting a detachable tooth bar for my 2400. do they work ok? also what name brand? my dealer has one that requires u to drill numerous holes in bottom of bucket. seems like i saw on this forum, one that just needed u to drill 2 holes in the side of the bucket. any thoughts appreciated. does the tooth bar make that much diff. when digging?

what name brand? I have no idea - one with replaceable points is undoubtedly best.

You can look at some at http://www.ssbtractor.com but if you do a search on the forum you'll find dealers selling them considerably cheaper.

Frank,
I have a detachable toothbar on my 4-in-1 bucket. It's an accessory that came from Long that bolts on with two bolts in the bottom-side of the bucket. I'm real happy with how it improves digging and helps in clean-up of brush, etc. I used a bucket with a regular edge for 18 years, so I have a pretty good comparison. I find the teeth so handy, I can't envision taking them off for any task I've come across so far. I've taken out a couple of stumps that I had to dig on a bit. The teeth are great for digging and ripping through the roots. I believe a remember a post from Steve Carver that offered to custom fit a similar bar to any bucket...two bolt mount version. He posted a pic and it looked real close to the one I got from Long. Bottom line: I really like mine and recommend this attachment. I can dig up a photo of it on the bucket if you would like to see it. Just let me know.

Frank-

Here is a pic of my toothbar, which I think is similar to Bird's.
It is the 2 hole type. Man does it work great, way beyond my expectations/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

I had mine figured into the price of my tractor, so I can't give you an exact price that I paid, but should be around $250-350.

Hopefully you can see through all of the mud, yesterday I got caught in the rain and didn't have time to spray it off.

I got mine from http://www.Aldermans.com. Talk to Tim or Wade.

Good luck.

Frank,

I agree with the others. Well worth the price and the units that mount with two bolts on the side of the bucket is the way to go. You also want one that teeth can be replaced, although mine show very little wear after about 200 hrs. The one I got for my
B21 was made by Woods and cost about $350. They come in several stock sizes and the dealer cuts and rewelds to fit a given bucket. A side benefit , for me, is that the tooth bar anchors the front of the tractor when using the backhoe. Even a little backhoe can drag your tractor around pretty well.
