I know not everyone is well versed in firearms but i would think if you are going to write a nationally circulated article describing what was used in this terrible shooting you would be a bit of homework.


Sedensky says Lanza killed all 26 victims inside Sandy Hook Elementary School with a Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle before taking his own life with a Glock 10 mm handgun. He says Lanza had another loaded handgun with him inside the school as well as three, 30-round magazines for the Bushmaster.

A loaded 12-gauge shotgun was found in the glove compartment of the Honda Civic Lanza drove to the school with two magazines containing 70 rounds of Winchester 12-gauge shotgun rounds

I agree, there are obvious mistakes in the article. They do make the writer look bad.
But honestly, I don't immediately conclude that everyone involved is "stupid". People make mistakes. Possibly this happened when a copy editor made a last minute adjustment to the text.

I think it is irresponsible and misleading reporting which is one of the major downfalls of the media today. A little research to get the story ( any story) accurate should be a requirement. They don't seem to have any difficulty spinning the stories to benefit their agenda.

Yet, among the anti-gun faction the violent video games had no effect on the shooter.

Nahh, Tom....I think they were stupid and there is just no cure for stupid...when you buy ink by the barrel you have a responsibility to not be stupid...

I agree with your assessment; however the reporter only devoted 3 or 4 lines to that aspect of the story, concentrating instead on the number and type of victims, the number and description of the firearms, where they were located, who owned them along with other associated trivia such as receipts and anything NRA. Not only was there no elaboration on the effects of the video games, there was certainly a paucity of information on his mental state and nothing condemning our current methods of treating and containing potentially violent mental patients.
