I think I asked for madreferee's dethatcher plans here at TBN at least a couple years ago.

Built this thing last summer and put it in the woods at the back of our property and that's where it has sat since.

Next time I think I'll take my time. ;)

Well, today I finally got around to picking up a lawn speeper to pick up the thatch so I'm going to give the dethatcher a run tomorrow after work.

I'll let ya know how she works.

I'm looking forward to seeing the results.

Is that hopscotch grid to help you make up for the exercise you'll be missing without having to hand rake your thatch?

Farmer, when we were kids our mom had us out in the yard every fall and spring raking...let's just say I learned to not love it.

I was real pleased with how both the dethatcher and lawn sweeper performed. We only have an acre and a half of lawn and it took quite a few hours of seat time to complete the job. It was just a beautiful afternoon here yesterday so I really enjoyed the job.

I only ended up going north and south. I believe "they" say you should do both north/south and east/west but right now I just don't have that much time.

I started dumping the thatch back in the woods but then my 5 year old son came out and asked if I could make a "track" of piles in the yard that he could ride his little quad around in. It's more work for me but heck yeah...I made the track...that's why there's a picture of all the piles sitting on the grass. :D

Yeah, I know, I'm talking to myself here but what the heck.

My boy got home from preschool today and was ready to tear it up.

Knew it was coming but the riding around the nice piles didn't last long. He asked if he could ride through them and told him go ahead. He had a BLAST. Rode for an hour, non stop.

Now...time to make some more piles and get that stuff dumped in the woods. :)

Dethatching the lawn with an implement I made...a good time.

The sweeper I bought actually working well....very nice.

5 year old boy riding his quad for an hour and then telling us he's so tired that he thinks he needs to go to bed...PRICELESS!

I'll be dethatching the lawn daily from now on....

That's fun that you let your kid play in the piles. That's what memories are made of.

Looks great. Where did you get the tines? Always remember you are raising kids not grass. Grass can be fixed later.

If I remember right I got the tines from Agri Supply.
