Thought I would start a new thread for 1445. I know of a few, here is the two I did.

First, I added risers under the top baffle on the engine. I feel that the baffle that PT puts on restricts air flow. I feel I gained a 7 to 10 degree drop in operating temps. This does not prevent obstruction, but it helps in easing cleaning.

I think the front riser is 2" of 1/2 Pipe and the back riser (the side along the muffler) is 1.5" I felt a bit of a pitch up would cause the air to blow out one side, and maybe create a bit of draft as well...

The second thing I did was make it easier to access the engine cooler. I did this by cutting the cover plate and welding on two hinges. I also welded a washer to the front bolt to act as a thumb screw.

I used my 4" hand held cut off grinder, and then chunked it up using my stick welder (I have no welding skill)

I also purchased an extended air nozzle at harbor freight - - Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices

Works like a charm

WF - Good thinking on those changes. My thought was the big issue is how quickly the air passages become clogged with grass and dirt. By attaching screens all around the engine cover, on the outside for easy cleaning, I could keep the cooler clean. Turns out to work reasonably well, though the PT still runs hot.
This month I am going to add the larger fan, plus I might add a mini air compressor that blows air over the cooler to 1) keep debris away 2) keep it cooler. That should give me a cool running PT finally.

Are you spraying out the cooler with something like Harbor Freight's engine cleaning wand and water/soap. I always blow it out first and you think it is clean until you hit it with the soapy water. If you are just using air, that is your problem, I think.

Was thinking more along the lines of an air blast directly over the engine cooler. My overheating occurs almost exclusively when I mow because of fouling the engine cooler with clippings and dust. Water would work though only after I have completed the job. Need a in process solution.

I was thinking more along the lines of cleaning before you mow. If you do not use soap/water, in my experience a significant amount of cooling robbing stuff remains which will increase your overheating issues. If you have not been using water, then maybe you do not need to go to the extremes you are talking about.

I air blow my cooler every couple of hours when mowing really dusty stuff, I wash it every night in dusty. But in normal use, I blow every 8 hours as part of service, and seldom wash.

I think a second oil cooler would be a better choice. I mull over getting one that spins on at the filter connector... Not sure if that would work or not, we do it on old muscle cars...

I just don't think your air idea will make much of a difference.

In Winter, I do not think I clean it all. In normal use, I clean it when doing my 50 hr service. Bush hogging or real dusty digging is a different matter (however dusty digging is a rarity - i have clay and shale and it seldom dries out. But it has been dusty at my brothers property).
