Massey Ferguson 245/ Deutz Fahr Agrokid 230
I just recently purchased a Deutz Fahr Agrokid 230, and I can not get the PTO to work while the tractor is on. I understand that there is a PTO Clutch with this tractor, however it does not seem to work. I am only able to get the PTO to shift on when the tractor is off. Am I doing something wrong or is there an issue with the PTO/PTO Clutch/Clutch?

It should have a lever for the PTO clutch under the steering wheel. You have to release the clutch, select whatever PTO gear you want and then engage the clutch again.

Lever down = PTO engaged
Lever up = PTO disengaged

So move the PTO clutch lever up, select the PTO gear and move the lever down to engage it.

The agrokid is like my Hurlimann Prince.
The "mode" selection is by your left knee.
1000rpm, 540 rpm, disengage, and ground speed.
the lever under the steering wheel controls the CLUTCH that powers the mode selected.

Exercise the clutch while selecting the mode.

I'm not understanding your word description of
"I am only able to get the PTO to shift on when the tractor is off." What does "shift on" mean to you? Tell us about "signs and symptoms".

I think I might have figured some things out. So for reference, my agrokid is not equipped with 1000rpm, or ground speed just 540rpm. Sometimes when pulling the PTO Clutch lever down it may not engage as the red light does not appear on the dash, however sometimes it will engage. However, I believe that the foot clutch needs to be adjusted, as the PTO shaft often turns when the PTO "mode" selection is selected to off.

So while the tractor is on with the PTO Clutch engaged the PTO "mode" selector when trying to go 540rpm makes a grinding noise and will not engage at 540rpm. With the tractor off I am able to move the PTO gear/mode selector without grinding.

I have been able to engage the PTO gear with the tractor on a couple of times only and I had to play with the foot clutch to get it to the point where it does not grind. Which is why I believe the foot clutch needs to be adjusted.

Now isn't this confusing.
On the Hurlimann 435, The pto clutch is ENGAGED when the lever detent is released and the lever moves UP.
Pressing the lever DOWN releases the clutch. Down is putting the clutch IN, and UP is letting the clutch OUT to use automotive speak.

To me, your description matches what I would expect if trying to engage the pto gears while the PTO clutch were fully clamped. Gears would grind, but you could shift those gears when they are not being driven by a spinning engine.

The PTO clutch lever works against the clutch pack springs. opposing those springs releases the clutch friction plates and allows the free turning of drive and driven gears.
Releasing the lever allows those springs to clamp the friction plates together and transmit torque through to the PTO output.
Some pto shaft spinning when the gears and clutch are not clamped is normal due to fluid friction etc.

Try your tractor "the other way round" ;-)
