Did I \"break\" his new tractor?

Husband is fishing this weekend and I thought I would do a little clearing. My daughter smelled "gas" and sure enough, tractor was on an incline and fuel was shooting out of a hairline crack in the seam of the plastic near the mouth of the tank.

Do I have to get another tank or will epoxy do the trick? Remember this is his brand new (less than 20 hours) Branson 3510. Don't remember anything falling on or grabbing the tank.

He'll be home tomorrow and I would like to have this fixed or at least some answers. Good thing we didn't buy a backhoe - he might consider using it to bury me! Help me out here, guys. Thanks.

Denise

Call the dealer..its new this a warranty item.

Be careful about putting epoxy on it or doing anything else that might void the warranty until a dealer or rep gets a look at it.

Stuff happens, I'm sure the old man wont be happy, however you had nothing to do with this.

Good luck!

Save it for the warranty/dealer, it's their responsibility. This is a equipment flaw and the husband should understand!

Good Luck

Sounds like a simple defect - call your dealer and let him fix it. Tell your husband while using the machine you noticed it has a small leak that appears to be a defect and wanted to get it repaired ASAP so it would be SAFE for him to use. How can he ever get mad about that ??? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good plan. Have S.O.S. call in to dealer to develop a fix-it plan. I truely think it was a weak seam in the tank - we just haven't done that much heavy work with it. Couldn't happen when HE was driving....Although it may have been doing it and he didn't notice because his foot was in the way. Only saw it because my daughter walked up.

Thanks,
Denise

Re: Did I \"break\" his new tractor?

I had the same problem on my Century 2028. The crack was where the filler tube meets the tank. It was replaced promptly under warranty.
I continued to use it in the meantime, just kept the fuel level low, adding a few gallons at a time...not always soon enough! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif That's why I have some experience in priming the fuel system when it's been run dry.

Maybe it did happen when "HE" was driving it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wouldn't accept a 'fix' short of a replaced tank. The bad seam is leaking only in one place, and could be bad elsewhere too. A patch will likely not last with the vibrations and fuel pressure over time, IMO.
