On the vacuum operated fuel pumps some use a brass air filter. I found that mine got plugged and would not work for long (probably from washing the machine so much (mud)) and caused the tractor to stall shortly. If that brass filter is plugged you can drill it out and put filter material in it; or purchase a new one for about $15.
